The 2024 Carolina Panthers’ defense made history for all the wrong reasons, giving up 534 points, the most ever allowed in a single NFL season.
In response, the team added edge rushers Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft, hoping to inject some much needed youth and potential into the pass rush. But even with those additions, it’s clear Carolina is still searching for elite level defensive firepower.
Enter Micah Parsons. While the Cowboys haven’t made him officially available, the All Pro pass rusher has made his frustrations known, and formally requested a trade.
That’s what makes a potential Parsons-to-Carolina scenario so compelling. This move could completely redefine the Panthers defense and accelerate their rebuild overnight.
It’s not just wishful thinking, either. NFL.com recently listed seven teams that make the most sense as trade partners for Parsons, and the Panthers were one of them.
Why the Panthers Would Make the Call

GettyA New Front Office, A New Identity, and a New Opportunity
New general manager Dan Morgan has made it clear he isn’t interested in a slow rebuild. Since stepping into the role, he’s shown a clear willingness to pursue bold, headline making moves in an effort to fast track the Panthers rebuild. He made a run at wide receiver DK Metcalf in what would’ve been a blockbuster trade and pursued defensive tackle Milton Williams in free agency.
Both efforts came up short, but the message was unmistakable: Morgan is actively hunting for elite talent, and he’s not afraid to swing big to get it.
Parsons, meanwhile, represents a rare opportunity to acquire a true franchise altering player in his prime. At just 26 years old, he’s already racked up three All-Pro selections, earned a reputation as one of the most disruptive defenders in football, and would immediately become the face of the Panthers’ defense.
That kind of star power doesn’t become available often, especially not at a premium position like edge rusher. Parsons would also bring a level of intensity, swagger, and leadership that Carolina’s defense has been missing since the peak of the Luke Kuechly era.
What a Deal Might Look Like

GettyA Gamble That Could Change Everything in Carolina
While there’s no confirmed package in play, a Panthers offer would likely include a 2026 first round pick, a young defender like DJ Johnson, and potentially one of this year’s rookies in Scourton or Umanmielen. Given Parsons’ age, production, and contract demands, Carolina would almost certainly need to make him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL to finalize a deal.
It would be a gamble, one that could gut future draft flexibility. But it might also be the only path to a defensive turnaround that doesn’t rely on waiting two or three years for prospects to develop. With Morgan still looking for a signature move, Parsons would be the kind of acquisition that instantly defines his front office era.
If Carolina were somehow to pull this off, the NFL schedule adds an extra twist: the Panthers host the Cowboys in Week 6. A Parsons revenge game in front of a home crowd at Bank of America Stadium.
For now, the most likely scenario is that Parsons remains a Cowboy and eventually signs a record setting extension. But if the standoff continues and Dallas explores options, the Panthers could be a logical suitor with the resources, roster fit, and front office boldness to make it work.
