“Mr. Coppola went in for a scheduled update procedure with acclaimed Dr. Andrea Natale, his doctor of over 30 years, and is resting nicely. All is well,” the representative told The Guardian. There was concern that the situation was more serious, but Coppola’s rep dispelled these rumors.

“There was not an emergency,” they said. “He went to the hospital in a car.”

Coppola has since made his own statement, updating fans and loved ones about his health. Coppola posted a photo of himself on Instagram on Tuesday, August 5, and wrote his thoughts in the caption. “Da Dada (what my kids call me) is fine, taking an opportunity while in Rome to do the update of my 30 year old afib procedure with its inventor, a great Italian doctor – Dr. Andrea Natale,” he wrote. “I am well!”

The AFIB procedure he refers to is short for Atrial Fibrillation, which helps to restore normal heart rhythm.

Fans & Celebrities React With Love to Francis Ford Coppola’s Health Update

The comment section of the Instagram post has been flooded with messages of love and support from fans and celebrities. Among the responses is one from “Basic Instinct” star Sharon Stone, who wrote, “We love you honey.”

“Law & Order” actress Lynn Sellers also shared her thoughts, writing, “This is wonderful news that all went well…Rest and recover! Btw, The Godfather Part II has been playing a lot lately. I’m always happy to see it especially to see my late husband, Bruno Kirby. I still have his Young Clemenza shoes and hat from it.”

Italian actress Mara Venier reacted to Coppola’s news with several red heart emojis.

Fans also reacted to the news with messages of support. “I’m glad you’re doing ok. It’s bad enough we lost David Lynch this year. We can’t afford to lose another brilliant filmmaker in the same year,” a fan wrote.

“I’m happy to hear you’re doing well, Mr. Coppola!” another shared.

Coppola reflected on his life when addressing a crowd at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts on August 1, SFGate reports.

“I’m 85. I lost my wife a year ago, around this time,” he said of his wife, Eleanor Coppola, who died in April 2024. “But my attitude for death is that I always lived my life so that when I was at the moment approaching death, I wouldn’t say, ‘Oh, I wish I had done this and I wish I had done that.’ Instead, I say to myself, ‘I got to do this.’”

He continued, “I got to see my daughter win an Oscar. I got to see my father win an Oscar. I’m going to be so busy saying all the things I got to do that when I die, I’m not going to notice it. When I die, I’m not going to notice it. You know how your electric toothbrush just shuts off when you least expect it? That’s what death is like.”
