Even though they selected a quarterback at No. 1 overall, the Tennessee Titans seems to have a QB issue. Cam Ward proved himself in the two drives that he played, but the rest of the QB room has plenty of room to grow.
Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle contributed to an abysmal combined 15/33. Knowing that Ward went 5/8, that makes Allen and Boyle 10/25 together. They each threw interceptions, three in total between the two of them.
Titans Fans Sound Off as Tennessee’s QB Depth is Questioned
Keep in mind, there are no guarantees that Ward shows out in the regular season. Will Levis struggled mightily last season, one of the main reasons Brian Callahan’s team drafted the Miami graduate. With Levis out for the season, Ward has no choice but to be the man in Tennessee.
This is not the first instance of Titans fans clamoring for added QB depth. Ward is paired with Allen, 32, and Boyle, 30. Combined the two have only appeared in 41 NFL games. Allen’s 2020 season is the lone instance where either has thrown more than 100 passes in a season.
#Titans fans, you wanna see another backup QB signed after tonight?

Kayla Anderson, an Emmy winning sports anchor, took to social media to ask Titans fans if they wanted to see another QB signed. She received well over 100 responses, seemingly all of the responses being a resounding yes.
“I would, but I’ve already plucked my eyes out after that last pick,” one fan said. It should be noted that none of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starters played.
This individual jokingly praised Anderson, “I honestly believe you would play better than both of those backups.”
Someone proposed a unique trade package, “Trade both boyle and allen and a 7 rounder for a fith round QB in Sheduer Sanders he’d be worth a stash.” Knowing the state of the Cleveland Browns quarterback room, it’s highly unlikely that they would add two more QB’s to their roster.
Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle Struggle Against Buccaneers Backups
Neither backup quarterback left Tampa Bay with a completion percentage above 50. Allen finished 6/12, exactly 50%. He threw 62 yards, five shy of what Ward did in one less completion. Allen was sacked once, and threw an interception.
Boyle threw the most pass attempts of the night. He was 4/13, just 30.77%. He threw not one, but two interceptions. His 24 yards were by far the lowest of the night as he was also sacked.
Look at that Titans OL! That is their strength and a BIG reason I’m so high on Cam Ward as a rookie.
Great players and some of the best OL coaches of our time are coaching them up.

The Titans offensive line was questioned heading into the preseason, but they held up quite well. One of Ward’s premier throws was a 27-yard-bomb to Calvin Ridley. The throw wasn’t the most impressive part, it was the presence of the offensive line. If Ward receives that type of protection this season, he’ll be in good shape.
With the QB battle being a hot topic of discussion, it’s important to mention Tyjae Spears injury as well. The 24-year-old running back was carted off the field after a big reception which turned out to be his only of the night.
Tennessee will look to answer on Friday, August 15 in Atlanta. Their remaining two preseason games are both on Friday night, as they finish at home on the 22nd against the Minnesota Vikings.
