OAKLEY — A 57-year-old man died after he suffered a medical emergency and crashed his car into a convenience store early Monday morning in Oakley, police said.
The incident happened just before 6:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven located at 2001 Laurel Road, according to the Oakley Police Department. Officers found the man unresponsive in the driver’s seat, pulled him from the car and determined he was experiencing a medical emergency.
Police said the man received care from officers and medical personnel, but he died at the scene.
An initial investigation revealed the man drove to the store in his car and made a purchase. He got back into his car, exited onto Laurel Road and started to head east, but he then drove up and over the sidewalk and crashed into the store, police said.
“We extend our sympathies to the family of the man,” police said.
