Carlos Alcaraz Reflects on Win over Medjedovic

On Tuesday, Alcaraz picked up a straight-set win over Medjedovic following a three-setter against Dzumhur in the first round.

Medjedovic, a 22-year-old who is currently ranked No. 64 on the ATP live rankings, impressed at times throughout the match; however, it was Alcaraz’s consistency and poise in big moments that separated the two.

Following the win, which made Carlos Alcaraz just the first player since Novak Djokovic to record four straight seasons with more than 50 wins, the world No. 2 spoke about the match during his on-court interview, praising Medjedovic:

“I know he’s a really powerful player. His shots are incredibly hard to return. He has a big serve also. I know he doesn’t like to run too much from side to side, so my plan was to make him run as much as I could.

“It was difficult because his ball flies and it comes really fast, but I’m just glad that I did it most of the time, tried to defend in a good way. I’m just really happy to get the win.”

Looking at Alcaraz’s Potential Path to a Title in Cincinnati

Heading into today’s match against Luca Nardi, Carlos Alcaraz is just three wins away from a final after a first-round elimination at the hands of Gael Monfils in Cincinnati last year.

Should he manage to get through the Italian standout, he will next collide with the winner of today’s Francisco Comesana vs. Andrey Rublev match in the quarterfinals.

Currently, Alcaraz holds a 3-1 record against Rublev, with the Spanish star winning their two most recent meetings.

On the flip side, Alcaraz and Comesana have never played one another.

Should Carlos Alcaraz wind up making it into the semifinals, the five-time Grand Slam champion could collide with players like Ben Shelton, Alexander Zverev, Jiri Lehecka or Karen Khachanov.

With plenty of action still to come in Cincinnati, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the day plays out.
