Emily Blunt Is Unrecognizable in ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ [PHOTOS]

Emily Blunt

Actress Emily Blunt has undergone a total transformation for her role in “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” And it starts at her roots.

New pictures from the set show that Emily’s character has gone from her vibrant red in the first movie to a platinum blond that renders the actress almost unrecognizable.

Fans lined up at barricades in New York City, where filming has been underway since late June, had to do a doubletake to make sure just who they were seeing.

Emily Blunt’s character, also Emily but Emily Charlton, has a bleach-blond bob with on trend shadow roots. In the latest pictures, she’s dressed in a tight red and black striped Coach sweater with a large apple on the chest emblazoned with “N.Y.” She accents the sweater with a silver tie. And completes the look with a black mini-skirt, chunky high heels and black sunglasses.

When Filming Began, Emily Blunt Was Still a Redhead

Interestingly, when filming of the sequel to the 2006 blockbuster “The Devil Wears Prada” began, Emily Blunt was still sporting her signature red locks seen in the first movie.

According to People, the actress remained a redheaded as late as the end of July, hinting that Blunt’s character might undergo a transformation as part of the film.

‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Fans Have Flocked to the Manhattan Film Set

Die-hard fans of the original movie have flocked to the Manhattan set of the movie daily ever since filming began. Many spend hours hoping to get a glimpse of their favorite characters.

According to People, all the major players are back for the sequel, That includes not just Emily Blunt but also Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs and Stanley Tucci as Nigel.

Most of the plot for the sequel has been kept under wraps. But according to Variety, the sequel focuses on Meryl Streep’s character Miranda. The powerhouse editor navigates a brave new world where magazines aren’t as relevant as they once were.

In a power shift, Miranda will reportedly be courting the advertising dollars controlled by Emily Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton. She is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with money to spend. Where Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs fits into that equation remains to be seen.

The Original Film Was Based On a Novel, but That May Not Be True This Time

“The Devil Wears Prada” stuck fairly close to the plot of the 2003 novel by the same name by Lauren Weisberger. But so far it doesn’t seem that the sequel is relying on that novel’s sequel.

Weisberger, who once worked as an assistant for Vogue editor Anna Wintour, wrote a sequel called “Revenge Wears Prada” ten years after her original bestseller. But what little we know of the plot for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” does not seem to line up with the storyline in the book sequel.

In the second novel, Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton have become friends. The pair join forces to start a successful bridal magazine that Miranda Priestly’s publishing company wants to buy.

But times have changed. And that plot no longer reflects the realities of the publishing industry. That is the likely reason for the new plot.

The film is set to hit theaters almost exactly twenty years to the day from the first. “The Devil Wears Prada” debuted on June 30, 2006. “The Devil Wears Prada 2” will be on the big screen starting May 1, 2026.
