Miami Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel announced on Sunday that the team’s star running back, De’Von Achane, would miss “days and weeks” with a lower body injury.
Achane participated in the first of two joint practice sessions with the Detroit Lions ahead of the teams preseason contest. However, he was completely absent from day two of the cooperative effort.
“Dolphins RB De’Von Achane has a soft tissue lower body injury that will keep him out between ‘days & weeks’, HC Mike McDaniel told reporters in Detroit. McDaniel indicated he’s not concerned about Achane availability Week 1 vs. Colts,” NFL insider Cameron Wolfe reports.
McDaniel also reported that Achane’s timeline was “kind of tricky”.
Star Defensive Tackle Zach Sieler To Miss Time
On the same day the team’s starting running back went down, the teams starting nose tackle was banged up as well.
However, it appears as though Zach Sieler’s injury status is majorly cautionary.
“(McDaniel) did not get specific with Sieler’s injury that happened the same day but seemed far less concerned, saying if this were the regular season it would have been a different situation,” wrote Tom D’Angelo of the Palm Beach Post.
McDaniel did attempt to calm the nerves of reporters and fans alike, saying:
“Both of them we’re going to reassess when we get back to Miami,” McDaniel said with his team still in Detroit. “But I’m not concerned for what you’re concerned about.”
Ethan Bonnor Goes Down With Injury Too
Unlike Sieler and De’Von Achane, cornerback Ethan Bonnor suffered his injury in the actual game.
Bonnor is a returning contributor in a strapped corner room making this a very untimely injury just weeks before Week 1.
“At least one Dolphins player sustained an injury during the game — cornerback Ethan Bonner, who clutched at his left leg following a first half play. McDaniel said Bonner has a hamstring injury and will be evaluated in South Florida on Monday,” Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
“After a doctor evaluated Bonner, he accompanied a trainer into the Dolphins’ locker room. He walked slowly but without a clear limp.”
McDaniel himself did not provide as light of an update on the corner. Where he previously downplayed the severity of the other two banged up starters, he was less descriptive with Bonnor.
“Don’t know the severity,” he said. “We’ll check that out when we get back.”
