The winner of the 2025 BMW Championship will win $3.6 million as part of a $20 million purse, according to the PGA Tour. The tournament, being played from August 14 to August 17 at the Caves Valley Golf Glub in Owings Mill, Maryland, is the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Robert MacIntyre entered Sunday’s final round with a lead over Scottie Scheffler, but Scheffler surged ahead to take a one-shot lead through nine holes at 14-under par. MacIntyre remained close behind at -13 through nine.
Sam Burns, Rickie Fowler, Tommy Fleetwood, Maverick McNealy, Harry Hall and Ludvig Aberg were also in contention. Michael Kim and Viktor Hovland rounded out the top 10 heading into the final nine holes for the leaders.
The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings after the BMW Championship will advance to the final tournament in the playoffs, the Tour Championship. Scheffler will also take home a $5 million bonus no matter where he finishes for leading the playoff standings through the BMW Championship.
A $3.5 million bonus for second place in the standings through the BMW Championship remained on the line on Sunday. Rory McIlroy, who entered the playoffs in second but skipped the first tournament, the FedEx St. Jude Championship last weekend, continued holding onto that spot on Sunday.
There is a lot on the line for the Scottish-born MacIntyre. He can jump past several golfers, including J.J. Spaun and Justin Rose, into third place in the standings with a victory. That would lead to a $2.56 million bonus on top of the $3.6 million prize for winning the tournament.
