The Seattle Seahawks starters dazzled during their second preseason game on Aug. 15 and one backup believes new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will be orchestrating one of the best offenses in the NFL.
One doesn’t want to read too much into the preseason, but the Seahawks offense looked fantastic in their 33-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
The first team went on a 10-play, 81-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown. Quarterback Sam Darnold was efficient, going 4-for-4, and running back Zach Charbonnet stood out on the field. On the first play of the drive, he had a 13-yard run, and on the final play, he capped the drive with a 15-yard touchdown run. He finished the drive with five carries for 45 yards. Seattle’s reserves ran well throughout the rest of the game, as well.
Jake Bobo is Hyped About Klint Kubiak

Offensive success and play calling from Kubiak has wide receiver Jake Bobo buzzing.
“I mean, you guys are going to see it, but it’s really cool what Kubs is doing,” Bobo told reporters after the game. “He’s marrying up – at least for just receivers – we’re all on the same path for the first 10 yards of a play, whether we’re running outside zone or we’re running boot-action, play-action off of it.
“I obviously have not been in their shoes, but I think that’s really difficult on a defense, DBs especially, safeties that are getting cracked all game then all of a sudden you’re going to boot-action off of it and run a deep in route off of that same route stem. I think that puts defenses in a bind, puts linebackers in a bind, so it’s been really cool to kind of explore that in Kubs’ scheme so far, but obviously we’ve got further steps we want to take and we’ll continue to do that.”
Running the Ball Opens Up the Pass Game
Running the football opens up things for receivers like Bobo to get some targets from Darnold, who last season led the Minnesota Vikings to a 14-3 record, throwing for more than 4,300 yards and 35 touchdowns, before signing with the Seahawks in March.
“If we can run the ball like we did tonight, obviously it’s preseason but that’s something that we want to do,” Bobo said. “To be able to do it here, do it against guys in different colored jerseys. It was good and if we can do that it’s going to open a whole other dimension for this offense. It’s something we want to do.

“It was good to get it done tonight, but we’ve got a lot of work to do to get to where we want to go, especially in the run game aspect of things, because it will open up a whole other bunch of things we can do on offense.”
Seattle’s top receivers are Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp, who signed with the Seahawks in March. Another free agent signee, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, is expected to lose the No. 3 spot to fast-rising fifth-round pick Tory Horton. Entering his third season, Bobo is the next man up.
