2025 NTA shortlist confirmed as Adolescence co-stars face off

Adolescence duo Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper are set to face off at the National Television Awards 2025.

The full list of nominations for the star-studded event have been revealed, with categories including ‘Drama Performance’ and ‘Quiz Show’.

Joel Dommett will be back to present the 30th awards as the final round of voting opens nationwide today.

It has certainly been an emotionally charged year of television, following the breakout success of Adolescence, and Gary Lineker making headlines as he exited Match of the Day.

Alongside that, Gavin & Stacey managed to unify the nation with their Christmas special.

But ahead of the awards show airing live on ITV1 from 8pm on Wednesday September 10, who will emerge victorious on the biggest showbiz night of the year?

Unlike other major awards, the NTA is voted by the general public, making the winners feel celebrated by viewers at home.

Those up for Reality Competition range from the roundtables of The Traitors to the crowning of an I’m A Celebrity jungle king or queen. Alongside them, Love Island and Race Across the World round out the category.

Five powerhouse contenders will be battling it out for New Drama, including global hit Adolescence, Rivals, Mobland and lip-reading thriller Code of Silence as well as Ludwig.

How to vote in the NTAs?

The vote for the National Television Awards 2025 is now open.

To vote, members of the public are asked to read through the list of nominees and tick one in each of the 14 categories to select who you think should win.

Votes must be in by 12 midday on Wednesday September 10.

All votes cast during this round will be added to those received in the first round of voting, and the results will be revealed live at the NTAs on the night.

The Quiz Show category remains as varied and enduring as ever, with Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel, Richard Osman’s House of Games, The 1% Club and The Chase.

For Authored Documentary, cricket star Freddie Flintoff opened up about his life-changing car crash in Flintoff. Rob Burrow also paid tribute to the late rugby league hero-turned-MND campaigner.

They line up alongside a pair of inspiring young women on personal journeys in Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me and Molly-Mae: Behind It All, while Boyzone: No Matter What chronicled the 90s boyband’s career with poignant honesty.

A number of beloved shows have made the shortlist for Returning Drama, with departing detective favourite Vera bidding to bow out on a high.

It will go alongside Call the Midwife and coming-of-age romance Heartstopper, plus two thrillers in Gangs of London and Slow Horses.

In terms of TV Presenter, can anyone stop Ant & Dec from taking the crown for a remarkable 24th year running? 

Hoping to cause an upset will be Alison Hammond, Traitors puppet master Claudia Winkleman, Stacey Solomon and Gary Lineker, after he ended his 26-year Match of the Day career.

Solomon may not be able to beat Ant & Dec, but she could have a better chance in Factual Entertainment, where her show Sort Your Life Out is coming up against Clarkson’s Farm, Gogglebox and The Martin Lewis Money Show Live.

In Drama Performance, teenager Owen Cooper has made the shortlist alongside his on-screen father Stephen Graham for Adolescence.

They’re up against Tom Hardy for Mobland and Rose Ayling-Ellis for Code of Silence, while Brenda Blethyn is recognised for her final case as Vera.

The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award will be going to one of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, The Graham Norton Show, hidden-celeb sensation The Masked Singer and panel game Would I Lie to You?

In the hotly contested Serial Drama category, reigning champion Emmerdale attempts to retain its crown, while EastEnders has high hopes. Hollyoaks, Casualty and Coronation Street will be hoping to cause an upset.

In Serial Drama Performance, Steve McFadden on EastEnders, Emmerdale’s Eden Taylor-Draper, Corrie’s David (aka actor Jack P Shepherd), Sue Devaney and Jacqueline Jossa as Walford’s Lauren will be battling it out.

In the Comedy department, Gavin & Stacey will be hoping to beat Brassic’s loveable rogues, Mrs Brown’s Boys and Michael McIntyre’s 25th Year Stand-Up Special?

In Daytime, This Morning and Loose Women will battle the cookery delights of James Martin’s Saturday Morning and the fraud-busting Scam Interceptors.

Strictly Come Dancing, The Voice UK, Britain’s Got Talent, The Great British Bake Off and The Great Pottery Throw Down round out the nominees for Talent Show.

Meanwhile, viewers are in for a treat with this year’s Special Recognition Award which will be presented on the night.
