Michelle Williams is opening up about one of her most personal joys. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on August 18, the 44-year-old Emmy winner shared that she & her husband Thomas Kail recently welcomed their third child together, her fourth overall, with the help of a surrogate.
Williams Thanks Her Surrogate With a Sweet Shoutout

When guest host Tiffany Haddish complimented Williamsâ figure, noting it looked like sheâd ânever had any children,â the actress smiled and gave a heartfelt acknowledgment.
âThen I’ve got to give a big shout out to Christine, cuz this last baby did not come through my body,â she said. âBut the miracle of our little girl is thanks to Christine. Maybe you’re watching out there; thank you, Christine.â
Williams Confirms Babyâs Gender for the First Time
The actress went on to reveal, for the first time, that her youngest child is a girl. âThanks to Christine, I have three under 5 at home,â she added. Williams also shares 19-year-old daughter Matilda Rose Ledger with the late Heath Ledger. She & Kail welcomed their first son, Hart, in 2020, followed by another child in 2022, before their youngest daughter arrived in 2025.
While Williams has remained protective of her childrenâs privacy, she has now shared more about her surrogacy journey & the surrogate who helped expand her family.
Balancing Life as a Mom of Four

Reflecting on motherhood during her interview, Williams admitted that raising three young children while working hasnât been easy.
âEverything’s good and under control. I’m the adult,â she joked to Jimmy Kimmel, before getting candid about juggling her busy schedule.
âI’m trying to figure out the sort of life-work balance,â she said. âI hear a lot of people are talking about self-care, and I’m just wondering when. Because I’m a working mom. Like, I already have the guilt, and I don’t want to take more time away from them, but I understand, like, I need to fill up the tank.â
Her Unlikely Parenting Hack: Government Errands
As for finding private time, Williams revealed her surprisingly relatable trick: heading to government offices. âIt’s by visiting our fine local establishments of government bureaucracy,â she explained with a laugh.
âYou say, ‘I’m sorry, honey. But one day you’re going to grow up, and you’re going to get a job. And you’re going to pay taxes, and you’re going to need a social security number for that,â â she said.
The “Dawsonâs Creek” alum even offered a lighthearted pro tip for parents: âI recommend a midday appointment because it’s a little bit more crowded. And then you can claim your rightful place at the back of the line where they will let you wait in complete silence for at least one hour.â
Williams’ Pro Parenting Tip For Parents
âThere is free seating for all,â Williams added. âBring like a nail file and, like, a to-do list and, like, check, check, check. You know what I mean?â She laughed, noting that she even enjoyed âan adult conversationâ with the employee once she reached the counter.
Her final hack? âIf you want a pro hack tip, don’t double-check your paperwork because you might have to go back.â
