Patrick Mahomes’ surprising reaction to Travis Kelce striking up a romance with Taylor Swift has finally been revealed — and it turns out the Kansas City Chiefs star didn’t buy it at first.

In the third episode of ESPN’s docuseries “The Kingdom,” the quarterback, 29, confessed that when Kelce told him about dating the 14-time Grammy winner, he was hesitant to believe it.

“[Kelce] told me during the week,” Mahomes recalled. “I was one of those like, ‘I got to see it, you know? I got to see it until I believe it.’”

Mahomes wasn’t alone in his disbelief. Ahead of Swift’s first VIP box appearance at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2023, Kelce’s teammates were just as floored. Defensive tackle Chris Jones remembered the team buzzing before their game against the Chicago Bears.

“You know the locker room was like, ‘Taylor Swift’s here. Taylor Swift’s here. For real? With Travis? Oh my god,’” Jones said. “We’re like, ‘Oh my god, Travis pulled Taylor Swift.’”

Game footage featured in the doc shows the frenzy when Swift stepped into the suite for the first time. Mahomes admitted the pop superstar immediately stole the spotlight.

“That’s the first person I noticed. I didn’t see anybody else,” Mahomes told Kelce on the sidelines. “You definitely felt the buzz and you could see people in the stadium gravitating toward where she was at there. But at the same time, we had business to handle.”

At the time, Mahomes hadn’t yet met the “Cruel Summer” singer, but told reporters after the game: “If she ends up being with Travis, then I’ll probably get to meet her at some point.”

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also got in on the fun, joking that he had “set them up.” Reid revealed he met Swift during a concert stop in Philadelphia, thanks to her dad, Scott Swift, being a die-hard Eagles fan. “By that time, I knew they were going out. I knew her before him,” Reid quipped. “She told Travis, ‘You know, I know your coach.’ And he went, ‘Oh no.’”

Fast forward to this summer, and Mahomes has grown used to seeing Swift around the Chiefs’ inner circle. His wife, Brittany Mahomes, has even formed a close friendship with the singer.

During a recent media session, the quarterback was asked about Swift joining Jason and Travis Kelce’s hit podcast, “New Heights,” on August 13 — where she also announced her upcoming album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”

“The news of Swift’s new album surprised me too,” Mahomes admitted. “I knew before y’all did, just because they called me after the podcast. They didn’t call me, they called Brittany, and I was like, in the back of the Facetime.”

Still, Mahomes couldn’t hide his excitement about the project. “Just knowing Taylor and seeing the process from just a little bit closer of how she makes the albums, it’s going to be amazing because of how much work she puts into it,” he said. “And what better place to announce it than the ‘New Heights’ podcast? I feel like she can be herself and showcase who she is.”

As for the podcast episode, Mahomes said he’ll be tuning in like everyone else. “I haven’t seen it yet, I’ve seen a little bit of clips like everybody else, but I’ll be tuned in.”
