Man in custody found dead in Denver jail, sheriff says

Denver law enforcement officials found a man who was in custody dead inside the Downtown Detention Center Thursday evening, according to a news release from the Denver Sheriff’s Department.

At 6 p.m., the man was found non-responsive in a “housing unit,” according to the release. The release doesn’t clarify if that was the man’s cell or a common area within the jail.

“A medical emergency team was immediately called and performed life-saving efforts. Shortly after, he was pronounced deceased,” according to the release.

The Denver Police Department will investigate his death. The Office of the Medical Examiner will identify the man and determine his cause and manner of death.
