If Micah Parsons ends up a member of the Green Bay Packers, quarterback Jordan Love will get an assist.
Love has spoken with the superstar Dallas Cowboys EDGE rusher and said he tried to lure Parsons north to Green Bay.
Parsons, of course, is in a contract standoff with the Cowboys as he seeks a more lucrative deal and has requested a trade. The Packers are considered one of the favorites to land Parsons, since they have a need for a pass-rush upgrade.
What Did Jordan Love Say About the Packers Landing Micah Parsons?
Love was a guest on Parsons’ podcast “The Edge” in February, and he said he tried to plant the seed of Parsons going north then.
“I talked to Micah this off-season. We did a podcast together,” Love told Kay Adams on “Up and Adams” on FanDuel TV on Friday. “I recruited him a little bit.”
The Cowboys’ asking price for Parsons is reportedly astronomical, and deservedly so since he is one of the best at his position. Parsons is a two-time All-Pro, who has made the Pro Bowl every year, and is a two-time finalist for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
But the Packers have about $30 million in cap space for this season, and acquiring Parsons likely would push them to one of the NFC’s favorites.
“It might not [happen],” Love said. “We’ll see.”
What Else Did Jordan Love Say?
Love had thumb surgery on his non-throwing hand during training camp, and he feels lucky the injury was to his left hand, since it cost him less than one week of practice.
“I think the hand it’s on, my left hand, is the reason I’m able to get back,” Love said. “If it was my right hand, it’d be a totally different story.”
He also told Adams about how he is managing the injury while still taking reps in preparation of Green Bay’s season opener Sept. 7 against the Chicago Bears.
“It’s one of those things that we’re trying to avoid any contact to [his thumb] now,” Love said. “A little limited in what I can do, but I’m still able to get 7-on-7 reps and do one-on-ones with the receivers, so [I’m] still staying active and trying to avoid any contact to that and let it heal.”
Part of letting his thumb heal is wearing a brace and finding a new way to receive a snap. He told Adams he’ll “be good” for Week 1.
“The ball hits my hand, but it’s on my fingers. I’m avoiding anything on my thumb,” Love said. “I’m in a little bit of a brace right now [and] trying to protect it. Just got to keep it protected right now.”
First-round pick Matthew Golden is among the new receivers with whom Love is trying to build a rapport, and he spoke about the University of Texas product’s skills and how excited he is to work together.
“Every day he comes to work, he’s got the right mindset,” Love said. “He’s trying to go out there and dominate and get better every day. … I’m very excited to see him on the field and see everything come to life.”
