Rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe has shined in preseason play for the Seattle Seahawks and is now drawing comparisons to a Super Bowl champion.
Milroe, a third-round pick, could play the entire final preseason game for the Seahawks on Aug. 23. Seattle is facing the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Milroe, a dual-threat, started the game 6-for-9 with 59 passing yards, and two rushes for three yards, approaching halftime.
Milroe may emerge as one of the leaders from what became a talented rookie quarterback class, said NFL analyst and former offensive lineman Ross Tucker on Aug. 22.

NFL Analyst Believes Rookie QB Class Could Be Elite
Tucker joined hosts Michael Bumpus and Stacy Rost on “The Bump & Stacy Show” on Seattle radio on Aug. 22. Tucker is very high on the quarterback class of the 2025 NFL draft, despite the prior talk about it being a weaker draft class.
“Everybody was so down on it, but I think Cam Ward has a real shot,” Tucker said. “Jaxson Dart has looked really good, thus far, for the Giants again last night. We haven’t seen Will Howard, but I’m still bullish on (Milroe). Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel have both played well … I do think it could end up being better than people think going into it.”
NFL Analyst see ‘Similarities’ in Jalen Milroe and Jalen Hurts
Tucker is high on Milroe because he faced adversity at Alabama, getting benched but winning the job back. Tucker draws comparisons to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who led the Eagles to Super Bowl earlier this year. Hurts was famously benched at halftime of the 2018 National Championship game for a younger Tua Tagovailoa.
“There’s a lot of similarities between Milroe and (Hurts),” Tucker said, but there are differences as well.
“The difference is Milroe is definitely faster and more explosive as a runner. And he definitely has a stronger arm. Now, Hurts is like a 10 out of 10 intangible guy.”
Jalen Milroe Had High GPA in College, Recognized for Accomplishments
Tucker noted that Milroe was awarded the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy in college, which recognizes combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
“(Milroe) had a really high GPA,” Tucker said. “Everybody you talk to kinda raves about him as a young man.
“So, if you’re gonna give me the guy with like the fastest GPS times for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and a rocket of an arm, and he’s a high academic kid, and a great kid, boy, I’m gonna bet on that guy.
“Whatever the development he needs, … it feels like he has the right things in place to be able to reach his ceiling.”
Jalen Milroe May Need to Sit for Now, But Could Blossom Later
The Seahawks haven’t officially named a starter, but the team signed Sam Darnold in the offseason. Darnold led the 2024 Minnesota Vikings to a 14-3 record, throwing for more than 4,300 yards and 35 touchdowns. Meaning, Milroe may need to sit awhile.
Tucker said it’s important to remember that Hurts also got out to a slow start in his career. “(Hurts’) third year is when he really took off,” Tucker said. “I can see Milroe having a similar path.”
In his first two preseason games, Milroe completed 9 of 15 passes for 107 yards and rushed eight times for 56 yards.
