Aaron Judge Opens Up About Yankees Mindset After Blowout Loss to Red Sox

New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge spoke to the media after his team was booed off their home field following a 12-1 loss to their rivals the Boston Red Sox. A frustrated Judge remarked with a cavalier attitude that even after demoralizing losses, his team needs to continue taking it day-by-day and improve upon the trend of errors that has plagued the Yankees lately.

“I feel like I’ve been saying it since opening day… I’ll tell you after a couple of tough losses that we’ve got to play better. That’s what it comes down to. Coaches can’t fix that, fans can’t fix that, media can’t fix that, it’s the players in this room. We’ve got to step up and that’s what it comes down to,” Judge said.

It’s been a demoralizing three days for Yankees fans as their team has made five errors and been outscored 19-4 over the first three games of their series with the Red Sox. After scoring three runs in the first five innings of game one, New York has scored just one in the last 22 innings of baseball.

Judge himself was once again shut down by Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet, striking out twice Saturday, moving his season line against the Cy Young candidate to nine K’s in 12 at-bats.

“He’s one of the best pitchers in the game for a reason… You’ve got to capitalize when he makes a mistake and we weren’t able to do that tonight,” Judge said.

Yankees Drop to 1-8 Against Red Sox This Season

What is heralded as one of the best rivalries in sports has been decidedly one-sided this year, as the Yankees have now lost eight straight to their heated foes. New York entered the weekend with a game and a half lead on the Red Sox in the wild card standings, but has now dropped to a game and a half behind them after a poor showing in the first three games at Yankee stadium.

Crochet has shoved against the Yankees in his last two outings against them, but other Red Sox pitchers have stepped up to shut down a potent Yankees lineup. Brayan Bello has shut New York out twice and has 13 strikeouts in his two outings against them this season.

New York Trending Down as the Summer Draws to a Close

Since the onset of June, the Yankees have played to a record of 34-38, which includes two separate six game losing streaks. They were playing their best baseball of the summer heading into the series against Boston with series sweeps over the St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Rays, but that trend was quickly shot down as they shot themselves in the foot on numerous occasions over the last three days.

New York is now at an inflection point as the wild card race is tightening up with just over a month to play in the regular season. The Yankees were projected to win the AL East, but now sit just a half game ahead of the Mariners for the final wild card slot, with the Royals, Guardians and Rangers all breathing right down their backs.
