Canadiens Add Former 31-Goal Scorer to Bolster Offense in New Trade Idea

The Montreal Canadiens are looking to take another step forward after making the playoffs last season, and the Habs should look to add more offense to the lineup.

Heavy.com has a trade idea that sees the Canadiens acquiring Yegor Sharangovich from the Calgary Flames in a big move.

Canadiens acquire:

Flames acquire:

The proposed deal would be a massive one as Montreal would add Sharangovich for an NHL forward, a young forward, and a first-round pick. The Habs ahve two second-round picks in 2026, which makes trading the first-round pick easier to handle.

The Canadiens would add Sharangovich, who’s entering the first year of a five-year, $28.75 million deal. He would be a top-six forward who can add some scoring to the lineup, which is a need. Montreal finished 22nd in scoring, so the Habs need to add more offense. Sharangovich recorded 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points in 73 games. However, the year prior, he had 31 goals and 28 assists for 59 points.

In return, Calgary would add a first-round pick and Beck, which would be the two key parts of the deal. Beck projects to be a bottom-six center in the NHL, but would add more youth to the lineup. He’s entering the second year of his three-year, $2.56 million deal.

Calgary would also acquire Anderson to make the salaries work. Anderson would be a middle-six forward and has two years left on his seven-year, $38.5 million deal. He recorded 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points in 81 games last season.

Canadiens Could Trade Anderson

Anderson has been a veteran leader for Montreal, but his time with the Canadiens could be over.

Anderson’s name has come up in trade rumors, and NHL analyst Jeremy Tingly named the veteran forward as a potential trade candidate.

“The Montreal Canadiens have been one of the more active teams on the trade market this offseason, and the steady business could continue,” Tingly wrote. “Veteran winger Josh Anderson is rumored to be available, as GM Kent Hughes is trying to allocate some resources, and shift around his finances.

“Anderson, 31, has two seasons left on his contract at $5.5 million AAV, which also includes a five-team no-trade clause. The Canadiens’ power forward had a down season last year, scoring just 15 goals and 27 points in 81 games. Not necessarily the production Hughes was expecting out of him, considering he’s making $5.5 million against the cap,” Tingly added.

Anderson is still a good power forward in the NHL and would make an impact on any team, but his salary is a bit high, which is why his name is up in trade talks.

Canadiens GM Not Ruling Out Making More Moves

Montreal is looking to build off last season, and the Canadiens have been active this offseason.

Although the Habs have made some big moves, general manager Kent Hughes isn’t ruling out making more moves to bolster their lineup.

“My focus is more so on what we can do to build a team that’s capable of competing for the Stanley Cup,” Hughes said… “The reality is, we’re not going to put the perfect team together over the course of one summer. We recognize we have other things we’d like to accomplish.”

The Canadiens enter the season with odds of +105 to make the playoffs.
