Colin Cowherd Goes on Random Cowboys’ George Pickens Rant

The Dallas Cowboys decided to trade for George Pickens during the offseason, a move that made sense. Dak Prescott needed another weapon, so the team acted by acquiring one of the NFL’s top wide receivers.

However, some see the Pittsburgh Steelers moving on from George Pickens as a telling sign, highlighting Mike Tomlin’s reputation as one of the league’s best coaches for how he treats players.

Tomlin doesn’t take anything from his players, and with Pickens’ history on and off the field, there’s a reason to believe that if Tomlin gave up on him, the Cowboys shouldn’t have traded for him.

The latest to randomly bash the Cowboys over that decision was Colin Cowherd.

“If Mike Tomlin, who has two things: great motivator and incredibly patient with immature players, when Mike says, ‘Yeah, guys, I’m out,’ but Jerry, this is a personality trait, Jerry loves to save,” Cowherd said. “He loves to give people jobs that need him.

“So when he goes and gets George Pickens, the reputation is out. Basically, Tomlin, ‘I’m out.’ Jerry’s like, ‘I’m here. I’ll make it work.’ I think this is Jerry’s wildcatting oil days, where he would hunt for gems. And I think that is literally his mindset with coaches and sometimes draft picks and players—that he feels like Pickens. The rest of the league is out. I am in. And I don’t think long-term. I think that’s why the Cowboys are where the Cowboys are currently.”

Will the Cowboys Regret Trading for George Pickens?

Cowherd delivers hot takes, so the Dallas Cowboys should not treat this as significant, even if they hear it.

Ultimately, Pickens has to go out and try to do what he does. If he can have a 1,000-plus yard season and open up the offense for the Cowboys, they should be more than fine.

It’s Too Early to Judge George Pickens

While it’s still early on, and the Dallas Cowboys have yet to even play a real game, the early investment in Pickens seems to be a wise one.

Many of the higher-ups in the Dallas Cowboys organization praise what he has accomplished early in Dallas.

“I think from the time that we got George, and we went into my office together and shot some free throws, talked and got to know each other, he made that [that he wants to be coached] very clear,” Brian Schottenheimer said, per CBS. “He’s like, ‘Coach, I’m thrilled to be here, No. 1. I want to be coached. I want to be great. I want to be a great player. I want to continue to be great. So, lean into me. Be tough on me. Tell me the things I need to do.’

“The way I am, I start with the relationship piece of it because I think you can coach people hard and coach them the right way when you have those relationships, but that doesn’t surprise me. He’s been nothing but incredible in terms of the way he’s worked with us, the way he’s communicated with us.”

As long as he can keep his cool on the field, the Cowboys and Pickens will be more than fine.
