After five years of introducing South Bay food lovers to an international array of cheeses — via creative cafe dishes, cheese boards, tasting events, vintner dinners and wine pairings — San Jose’s Devine Cheese & Wine will close at the end of service this Saturday, Aug. 30.
Owner and fromage expert Liana Ryan announced the news “with a mix of gratitude and sadness” in her email newsletter. “Over the years, it has been our profound pleasure to share our passion for exceptional cheeses, fine wines and memorable moments with you,” she wrote. “Your support has meant the world to us, and we are so grateful for the community you helped us build around our humble shop.”
Devine opened in early 2020 at 27 Devine St., at the corner of North Second Street near the edge of downtown. Besides serving dinner several nights a week, the restaurant offered tasting events, held pop-ups and participated in Dine Downtown promotional weeks.
“While our storefront is closing, our love of cheese isn’t going anywhere,” Ryan wrote, noting that that cheese club will resume in October after a break in September. They also will continue catering cheese boards for special events.
