Yet, it is hard to believe owner Jerry Jones was not motivated to cut ties with Parsons after believing the two had agreed to a deal earlier this offseason.
“Kenny Clark was a big part of this,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones noted in an August 28, press conference, per NFL.com. “That was a part of winning right now. We feel like when you look at the frustration is we hadn’t been able to win the big game in the playoffs, and we think it is a direct connection to not being able to stop the run. And we think Kenny Clark is gonna be a big piece to that.
“We felt like because of our depth on the edge, as well as the ability to scheme pressure, that we could make up for Micah — because obviously he’s elite at rushing the passer — that we could make up for that.”

Parsons went on to release a lengthy statement on X thanking Cowboys fans following the trade. Regardless of why the trade happened, it appears the fractured relationship between Parsons and the Cowboys played a major role in the deal.
“I spoke with Micah Parsons this evening,” NFL Network’s Jane Slater noted in an August 28, message on X. “He says ‘genuinely gonna miss ya’ll’. He says he and his team went back to the Cowboys about an extension with ’empathy’ when the trade interest was leaked this week.
“The Cowboys response according to Parsons was ‘play on the 5th year or leave.’”

Cowboys star cornerback Trevon Diggs has been one of the most vocal supporters of Parsons. Diggs previously changed his profile picture to feature himself alongside Parsons.
