The Green Bay Packers just traded for Micah Parsons, arguably the best defensive player in the NFL, and the edge rusher’s new teammates aren’t hiding their excitement.
Rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden, who has a chance to play his way into the No. 1 role in the pass game this season, took to social media on Thursday, August 28, to express his feelings on his new team landing the four-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker.
“Yes lawd,” Golden posted to his X account.
Golden is on a four-year rookie contract with a team option for a fifth season, while Parsons just inked a four-year deal with the Packers as well, meaning the two are likely going to be teammates for several seasons as Green Bay transitions into what could be an era of perennial title contention.
Packers Paid Premium to Land Micah Parsons From Cowboys

The Packers’ deal for Parsons developed quickly on Thursday, at least from a reporting standpoint.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier in the day that Dallas was listening to offers in a real way for the first time since Parsons requested a trade weeks ago. Just hours later, Schefter was reporting the deal was done and that Parsons had inked a record-breaking contract.
“ESPN Sources: Cowboys are trading three-time All-Pro LB Micah [Parsons] to the Green Bay Packers. Parsons and the Packers already have reached agreement on a four-year, $188 million contract,” Schefter wrote on X. “[DavidMulugheta] of [Athletesfirst] had a hand in the trade and ultimately negotiating the record-breaking contract that includes $120 million fully guaranteed at signing and makes Parsons the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history.”
Parsons’ deal surpassed those of T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns, both of whom also signed monster extensions earlier in the offseason
Watt is now highest-paid edge defender in the game at $41 million annually, which totals $123 million overall across a three-year contract. Garrett inked by a four-year deal for $160 million, which equals $40 million annually.
Beyond the $47 million annually Green Bay will pay Parsons, the team also sent Dallas two first-round picks and interior defensive lineman Kenny Clark, a three-time Pro Bowler, in the trade.
Matthew Golden Could Prove Same Asset to Packers’ WR Room as Micah Parsons Should Be to Edge Rush

By drafting Golden and trading for Parsons, the Packers have addressed two of their biggest roster issues heading into the 2025 campaign.
The pass rush was well above average in 2024 based on traditional statistics, but the Packers had trouble getting pressure in high-leverage defensive situations against quality opponents last season. With Parsons paired alongside Rashan Gary, that should no longer be nearly as serious an issue.
Golden also joins a group in the receivers room that has talent and depth, but has lacked a true No. 1 option for Jordan Love’s tenure as the starting quarterback over the past two years. It is a lot to ask of Golden to come in and be the top target in the pass game as a rookie, but the presence of Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs should take some attention off the young pass-catcher.
Tight end Tucker Kraft also produced a promising campaign with 50 catches for north of 700 yards and seven TDs in his second NFL season and should complement the revamped WR group well.
