Manchester United concluded their summer transfer business with the £18m signing of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Lammens, 23, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Old Trafford after joining the Red Devils from Royal Antwerp.

United expressed interest in signing Lammens after Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both endured difficult starts to the new season.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was also of interest to United but they prioritised a deadline-day deal for Lammens.

‘I am extremely proud to be joining Manchester United; it is a real dream come true,’ Lammens told the club’s official website.

‘The past few years have been an amazing journey; it’s now ended in an incredible destination and hopefully the beginning of something special.

‘You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created here, and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years.

‘I cannot wait to get to know my team-mates and begin working with Ruben and the coaching staff.

‘This is the perfect place to keep developing, grow together with this exciting team and achieve my career objectives.’

Manchester United Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, added: ‘Senne is an excellent young goalkeeper with great potential.

‘We are delighted that he has chosen to join Manchester United after significant interest from a number of clubs.’

United fans are curious to find out whether Lammens will come straight into the team given Onana and Bayindir continue to flatter to deceive.

But Old Trafford legend Gary Neville says ‘people’ he has spoken to at the club have indicated they view Lammens as a No. 2 at this stage of his career.

As a result, Lammens will likely be on the United bench in the coming weeks, with Ruben Amorim yet to decide between Onana and Bayindir as his No. 1 for the 2025-26 season.

Lammens remains incredibly inexperienced despite making 63 first-team appearances for Belgian side Antwerp.

He has represented Belgium through the age groups but is yet to earn his first international cap, playing back-up to superstar goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Asked about Manchester United’s pursuit of Lammens last week, Neville told NBC Sports: ‘I’ve been asking around about that one this morning and spoke to a few people at United.

‘The feeling is the new boy coming in would probably be a No. 2 who would start on the bench, but they absolutely do need a No. 1.’

Lammens is Amorim’s fifth and final signing of the summer following Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.

While Lammens may not come straight into the Manchester United team, his arrival will raise further speculation over Onana and Bayindir.

According to Sky Sports, United are ‘open to offers’ for both goalkeepers, with some transfer windows across the world yet to shut.

Onana, in particular, has previously been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and their window remains open for three more weeks.

Amorim’s side, who have four points from three games, return to Premier League action on Sunday against local rivals Manchester City.
