Another a successful musical summer is wrapping up in Los Gatos with Jazz on the Plazz, Music in the Park and the Sounds of Summer. Ginger McDonald says it was an honor for Los Gatos Morning Rotary to create Sounds of Summer, an event that focused on youth with mental health issues. Endless Summer, held Aug. 22 at the Town Plaza, was designed to raise awareness of CASSY’s counseling support and services for youth. The second Taste of Los Gatos is coming up Saturday, Sept. 6. From noon to 5 p.m., North Santa Cruz Avenue will be closed to allow vendors and visitors to stroll the street listening to live music, sampling food from local restaurants and for those over 21, tasting some of the area’s best wines. Last year’s crowd numbered over 3,000, with more expected this year. www.losgatoschamber.com
KCAT, the local cable TV channel, is sponsoring an old-fashioned Oktoberfest to thank sponsors and welcome the fall season. Family-friendly festivities run noon-8 p.m. on Sept. 13 on the Los Gatos Civic Center lawn. Test your strength in the stein holding contest, where the last person holding an outstretched stein wins a prize and bragging rights. New this year: Reserve a table for six.

A great start to the fall season is the St. Mary’s Fall Carnival; mark your calendars for Oct. 3-5. The three-day event attracts hundreds of families with amusement rides, entertainment and that old favorite, bingo.
