Richard is described as a man still heartbroken years after his split, carrying both anger and pain while doing everything he can to protect his daughter. âHis performance â as a struggling single dad, fiercely protective of his daughter â just glows with integrity,â showrunner and executive producer Ian Weir told People. âHe found levels that I hadnât imagined.â

Cast & Crew Remember Warnerâs Talent & Character
Weir said the team was overjoyed when Warner signed on for the role. âWe were really delighted when Malcolm agreed to join us as a guest star â and completely thrilled by the experience of working with him,â he recalled. âHe was such a leader and a gentleman. Itâs such a terrible, tragic loss.â
Fox also honored the actor in a statement, remembering his warmth as much as his talent.
âEveryone at FOX is heartbroken by the tragic loss of our friend and colleague, the extraordinary Malcolm-Jamal Warner. While his iconic roles â from comedic to dramatic â are unforgettable and timeless, Malcolm will be remembered most for his warmth, kind heart and the lasting impact he had on his friends, family and fans everywhere.â
Honoring His Life & Lasting Legacy
Weeks after his death, Warnerâs mother launched the âMalcolm-Jamal Warner Living Legacyâ Instagram account, where she shared a statement about her sonâs life and impact.
âHe was a kind, loving man with a huge heart for humanity,â it read. âMalcolm was an exceptional husband, father, and son â a man deeply in love with his life, his wife, and his daughter. He was in love with the magic of being an actor, always studying and honing his craft.â
Along with roles in “The Resident” and “Alert: Missing Persons Unit”, Warnerâs career spanned decades and genres. His final appearance on “Murder in a Small Town” will now serve as a fitting farewell to a beloved star whose presence on screen and off left a lasting mark.
