Firefighters gained control of a fast-moving grass fire burning near open space in northwest Arvada that forced mandatory evacuations on Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
Fire crews had full containment on the fire just before 2 p.m., the Arvada Police Department said in a post on social media.
“Previous evacuation orders remain in place,” Arvada police said in a 2:03 p.m. post on X. “We will advise when residents can stand down/return home.”
Arvada Fire Department crews and other Jefferson County law enforcement responded to a fire near West 82nd Avenue and Quaker Street, the agency said just before 1 p.m.
The size of the fire was not immediately available, but the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office descried it as a “large house/grass fire” that was threatening homes.
People living on 84th Place at Quaker Circle and Quartz Street are under mandatory evacuations and people living nearby off of 84th Place should prepare to evacuate, Arvada police said.
People living in Leyden Ranch from Orion Way to Moss Circle should also prepare to evacuate, police said at 1:24 p.m.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
