The comedy trio Please Donât DestroyâBen Marshall, Martin Herlihy, and John Higginsâhas been a breakout fixture on “Saturday Night Live” since 2021, earning comparisons to The Lonely Island for their viral sketches and quirky humor. But with season 51 of the NBC staple bringing a major cast shake-up, fans are asking the big question: did PDD just break up?
Please Donât Destroy Faces Big Changes On SNL
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the groupâs signature digital shorts will not continue on SNL as staffing shifts take hold. Marshall has officially been promoted to the main cast, while Higgins announced his exit as a writer to pursue acting full-time.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Higgins reflected on his time at the show:
âI canât believe how lucky I was to be a part of this show. It was my dream and I got to live it. And to do it with my two best friends and my dad was an unbelievable experience. Thank you to everyone who made my time there so special, it made this decision that much harder.â
Higgins added that he is âexcited to pursue acting opportunitiesâ and signed off with a Winnie the Pooh quote: âHow lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.â
PPD’s Future Beyond ‘Saturday Night Live’
Despite the changes at 30 Rock, fans can breathe a sigh of relief. As Variety reported, the trio intends to keep working together outside of the show. This means their creative chemistry will live on, even if their presence on SNL evolves.
The groupâs comedy roots run deep. Higgins is the son of longtime SNL producer Steve Higgins, nephew to Chris Elliott, and cousin to The Bear star Abby Elliott. Herlihy is the son of former SNL writer Tim Herlihy, who often collaborated with Adam Sandler.
Since their 2021 debut, Please Donât Destroy has delivered viral hits, from their hard seltzer parody to the âThree Sad Virginsâ music video with Pete Davidson and Taylor Swift. In 2023, they made the leap to film with “Please Donât Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain” on Peacock, produced by Judd Apatow.
Meanwhile, NBC has announced five new featured players â Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, Veronika Slowikowska, and Marshall â joining the season 51 cast after the sudden exits of Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, Michael Longfellow, and Heidi Gardner.
