NFL’s Decision on Jalen Carter Suspension to Come on Monday: Insider

The Philadelphia Eagles opened the 2025 season with a 24-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, and while the win was nice, it wasn’t a perfect night for the team. In fact, things immediately got off to a rough start thanks to star defensive tackle Jalen Carter getting ejected after the first play of the game for spitting at Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

The Eagles managed to overcome Carter’s absence to pick up a victory, but he is set to be punished by the league for his actions. According to a recent report, Philadelphia should find out very soon what Carter’s punishment is, and it sounds like a potential suspension could be on the table for the third-year defender.

Eagles Set to Find Out About Potential Jalen Carter Suspension on Monday

Initially viewed as one of the top prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft, Carter’s stock took a hit due to his involvement in a serious car crash during his time with the Georgia Bulldogs that resulted in the deaths of Georgia staff member Chandler LeCroy and football player Devin Willock. The Eagles eventually selected Carter with the No. 9 overall pick despite his legal issues, and eased him into the action as a rookie.

After becoming a full-time starter in 2024, Carter enjoyed a breakout season, racking up 42 tackles, 4.5 sacks, six pass deflections, and two fumbles forced. That production earned Carter the first Pro Bowl selection of his career, in addition to a spot on the All-Pro Second Team. Most importantly, though, Carter helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX over the Kansas City Chiefs.

With guys like Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, and Brandon Graham no longer on the Eagles’ defensive line, Carter is set to take on an even bigger role in 2025. However, he didn’t even play a snap before getting ejected for spitting at Prescott, and according to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the league is expected to announce its punishment for Carter on Monday.

“At the very least, Carter will face a substantial fine, and he could also be suspended, sources told ESPN,” Schefter wrote. “A decision by the NFL is expected Monday, according to sources, as the Eagles return to work and get ready for a Super Bowl rematch in Kansas City next Sunday against the Chiefs.”

With the Eagles preparing to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch in Week 2, being without Carter could be detrimental to their success. If Carter gets suspended and can’t play in this game, Jordan Davis and Moro Ojomo would have to take on bigger roles, while the recently signed Za’Darius Smith could immediately find himself thrust into the starting lineup.

For now, all the Eagles can do is wait and see what Carter’s punishment ends up being. If he misses time, that could put Philadelphia’s defensive line in a bind, especially when considering they will be going up against a Kansas City team that is desperate to get in the win column after losing to the Los Angeles Chargers. While all the attention will be on the rest of the Week 1 action on Sunday, the Eagles will be anxiously awaiting the announcement on Carter’s punishment.
