President Donald Trump has unveiled a new order to protect the right to prayer in US public schools.
Trump announced the new guidance to come from the Department of Education while speaking at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC, on Monday morning.
He claimed that religious liberty in public schools faces ‘grave threats’.
‘For most of our country’s history, the Bible was found in every classroom in the nation, yet in many schools today students are instead indoctrinated with anti-religious propaganda and some are punished for their religious beliefs,’ said Trump.

‘Very, very strongly punished. It is ridiculous.’
Trump vowed that his administration would ‘protect the Judeo-Christian values of our founding’, during his speech at the Religious Liberty Commission’s second public meeting.
He did not elaborate on the details of the upcoming guidance, and the Department of Education did not immediately comment.
Practicing religion in public schools is not prohibited, and students have the right to pray as individuals. But the US Supreme Court in 1962 ruled that state-sponsored prayer violates the First Amendment.

Trump left the commission hearing, which had the theme ‘Religious Liberty in Public Education’, complimenting them on an ‘amazing job’.
His announcement furthers his 2024 campaign promise to ‘bring back prayer’ to schools.
During Trump’s speech, US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Scott Turner said that the America Prays initiative will aim to have one million people pray for per week, as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary next year.
‘This is about the miracles that would take place over the next year,’ said Turner.

Trump during his visit also said he ‘personally delivered’ a Bible that his mother gave him to the Museum of the Bible. His family Bible was used to swear him in both times that he won the presidency.
‘It will now be displayed right in the heart of our nation’s capital, right here,’ he said.
