Pauline Chalamet recently admitted she could hardly believe it when she was offered a role in “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”
The 33-year-old actress, best known for her work in “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” spoke exclusively to People at Veronica Beardâs Icons Party during New York Fashion Week, opening up about the surreal moment she learned she was cast in the sequel to the 2006 classic starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.

In an interview with People, Chalamet jokingly revealed, “I blacked out. So I donât remember. I kind of didnât believe it until I was given dates. I kind of went, âOh, you pranked me, thatâs not really going to happen.â And then I was given the blueprint for the looks.”
Chalamet is among a handful of newcomers joining the long-awaited sequel. Alongside her, audiences will see Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, and “Bridgerton” star Simone Ashley. Original cast members Meryl Streep, Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all reprising their roles, with director David Frankel returning to helm the project.
Chalamet said she considers the original 2006 movie âa perfect filmâ and added that she has always related to Hathawayâs character. “Itâs a perfect movie. And I really mean that, it is a perfect movie. Itâs so fun,” she said. “Iâm 100 percent an Andie [Sachs]. I canât even pretend Iâm not. With dreams of being a Miranda [Priestly].”
The actress has already started building strong relationships with her new costars. “Simone Ashley, fell in love with her. I love her,” Chalamet said, adding that working alongside the established “Devil Wears Prada” cast has been an experience sheâll never forget.

Despite filming “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” Chalamet still found time to join celebrities and fashion insiders at New York Fashion Week. Asked who sheâd love to sit beside in the front row, she immediately mentioned her costar. “Anne Hathaway comes to mind, because Iâm working with her and sheâs so lovely,” she said. Chalamet went on to list other dream seatmates, including Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, Grace Kelly, Alfred Hitchcock, and Beyoncé.
Chalamet also praised designer Veronica Beard, saying, “I love Veronica Beard because it feels very effortlessly chic. Thatâs very important to me, where itâs elegant, if you put on a piece of clothing that makes sense to you, easy and has a fit.”
The actress explained she enjoys going out to eat after fashion shows, even if sheâs still dressed in glam attire. “I like to grab a bite at a favorite spot, and itâs really fun to go all glammed up… You feel like youâre living in âThe Devil Wears Prada.â You feel like youâre so chic that life is your show.”
With filming underway and excitement building, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is set to premiere in theaters on May 1, 2026. For Chalamet, joining the beloved franchise has already been a career highlight â one she nearly thought was a prank.
