The Philadelphia Eagles have been criticized for much of the past few seasons due to their famous tush push play. The tush push is nearly unstoppable, and many want it out of the league. Unfortunately for fans, players, and others, itâs unlikely that the NFL will ban a play. At the end of the day, the Eagles technically aren’t doing anything illegal.
Despite that, many believe that the Eagles should be called for false starts for nearly every tush push. There have been videos surfacing on X and other social media platforms that show the Eagles are moving early.Â
Sean McVay Talks Facing Eagles
Heading into their Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Rams, Rams head coach Sean McVay wanted to put that out there before both teams step on the field.
âAnytime that you see certain things, you have conversations with the league office to make sure youâre understanding, how is it officiated? How can we coach it?â McVay said, per PFT. âI did see some of those things last night, and thatâll obviously be a big talking point because theyâre such a damn good team and itâs such a successful play for them.
âThose are conversations with the league office, but Iâm sure theyâll have the same ones and operate within the confines of not getting a little bit of a rolling start before the ball is snapped.â
Nick Sirianni Shrugs Off Tush Push Critics
It makes sense why McVay is worried about how the Philadelphia Eagles will manipulate the referees against his team in Week 3. Ultimately, if they’re getting away with false starts, it’s something the NFL will have to crack down on.Â
Nick Sirianni, however, isn’t too worried about what people have to say on social media and elsewhere. He stated that it’s tough to get a perfect angle of how things look, adding that things can be different to the naked eye.
âI think that the one clip I saw of it was slowed down so much that Iâm not sure you can see that to the naked [eye],â he said, per NFL.com. âI mean, it was slowed down so much.â
âAnd I get how we can manipulate things and show things like that. But it was slowed down so much, it was likeâ¦,â Sirianni said, imitating three beats with his hands to mimic the timing. âRight? But we understand that we have to be perfect on that play. And weâll keep working on being perfect on that play. You know, someone shared that clip with me, and itâs like â but again, can you see that in the naked eye, right? Well, thereâs things they do too on defense that sometimes you canât see to the naked eye all the time, or the refs canât see it also in that time to the naked eye. So you can do that with a lot of plays in football and slow it down.â
It’ll be interesting to see if the NFL has any changes to the play over the next few years. With all the controversy already around it and nothing changing as of now, it doesn’t seem likely.
