Lions QB Jared Goff Sends 5-Word Message to Ravens After Win

The Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens served up what was already one of the hottest games of the season on Monday, September 22, during Monday Night Football, and while almost all of the so-called experts thought the Ravens had this one in the bag, the Detroit Lions won with a healthy score of 38-30. Don’t underestimate Detroit, especially when they’re the underdogs, because they’re used to getting underestimated.

During this game, a lot of attention was thrown at both team’s quarterbacks, because they’re both considered among the strongest in the league. For the Lions, that’s Jared Goff, who’s entering his fourth year with the franchise. For the Ravens, it’s MVP-winning Lamar Jackson.

One major takeaway from this game was that the Lions were able to contain Jackson and even sacked him seven times. The ability to contain a star quarterback like Jackson is a skill that any team going to a championship needs to posses. Now, the Ravens went into this game banged up, and they were missing some key player, but that doesn’t make this win any less sweet for the Lions.

Following the game, a glowing Goff spoke with the press about the win. He had a five-word message for the Ravens, and it was a classy one. Goff’s five-word message was, “They are so dang good.”

In full context, he added, “I don’t know what Lamar (Jackson)’s record is against NFC teams (24-3 after Monday). I think he’s lost twice. They are so dang good, and he’s so dang good, and their defense is always good. That’s why they are hard to beat, and yes, they have given me trouble a few times, and I was able to get one tonight.”

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had some comments after the game. He tried to sum up how the Lions stunned the team.

“I don’t think you could just put it in one category. We threw the ball pretty well, and Lamar made some extended plays,” he said. “He made some on time throws, tried to move around in the pocket and make some plays.”

Harbaugh added, “They got us on some sacks when you’re trying to throw the ball like that at the end of the game, too. So, I’m not sure what your question is, really, but they played good defense, and we were competing on offense. We didn’t run the ball as well as we wanted to, either. That had a lot to do with it. I think I’d like to see us run the ball better.”

Detroit Lions Are NFC North Darlings Again

When the Lions lost to the Green Bay Packers, the Packers suddenly became favorite to top the NFC North this season. But, the Detroit Lions won their second game of the season against NFC North rivals the Chicago Bears, and then, in Week 3, the Packers suffered a major loss to the Cleveland Browns.

So, just like that, the Lions are favorites, again, to top the NFC North. Next up, they’ll take on the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at Ford Field.
