Boy, 2, dies during bath inside Placentia home

A 2-year-old boy died after he apparently drowned in a bath tub inside a Placentia home Monday night, Sept. 22, and his mother was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, authorities said.

Placentia police were called to the 200 block of South Main Street just past 9:05 p.m. and arrived to find the toddler unresponsive, Lt. Joe Connell said.

The boy’s mother told police she was giving the toddler a bath in a walk-in shower while using a plastic storage bin container as a bathtub, Connell said.

“She said she had stepped out to grab something and when she returned she found the toddler face down in the water,” Connell said.

Police and firefighters attempted life-saving measures before taking the boy and his mother to the hospital, where the boy died, Connell said.

The mother was still hospitalized as of Tuesday morning, but Connell said police were “trying to get confirmation on what those injuries were.”

The family – mother, father and five children – live in a back house on the property, just north of  Aguirre Lane. The toddler was the youngest of the five children.

Investigators were attempting to get a search warrant to inspect the house. Connell said that was not an indication of suspected criminal activity.

“It’s part of our due diligence,” Connell said. “We’re just doing our investigation.”

The identity of the boy was withheld by police.
