Titans Proposed Trade Lands $5.3 Million Investment For Cam Ward

The Tennessee Titans haven’t kept No. 1 pick and rookie quarterback Cam Ward upright, amid a 0-3 start this season.

Tennessee could help resolve that by trading for Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Wanya Morris, as Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay suggests. Morris has a four-year, $5.36 million contract with the Chiefs, but he isn’t starting this season and hasn’t taken any offensive snaps after 11 starts the year before. The Chiefs have used him on just 14 special teams plays thus far.

“Bringing in Wanya Morris could provide Tennessee with a capable starter while JC Latham recovers from injury, Kay wrote. “Although Morris has been riding the pine for the Kansas City Chiefs this year, the 2023 third-rounder earned valuable reps as an 11-game starter in 2024.”

“Morris has fallen out of favor in Kansas City and would likely be available for cheap,” Kay added. “Although giving up a draft pick isn’t ideal for a rebuilding franchise, the Titans shouldn’t spare any expenses in their quest to keep Ward upright and his development on track.”

In Kay’s proposed trade, the Titans only give up a sixth-round draft pick in 2026. Morris has been in the league since 2023 and has 15 career starts.

Cam Ward’s Development is on the Line

Tennessee invested the top pick in Ward, a dynamic playmaking quarterback who starred at Miami after successful stints at Washington State and Incarnate Word.

Ward wasn’t expected to start this year originally, but that door opened when veteran quarterback Will Levis sustained a season-ending injury. In three games, Ward has completed 54.5% of his passes for 506 yards and two touchdowns versus an interception.

Ward has also rushed for 20 yards on seven carries, but his mobility hasn’t been enough against the pass rush, getting past a porous offensive line. The former Heisman Trophy candidate has taken 15 sacks this season.

“Many of Ward’s issues are a result of a glaring lack of pass protection,” Kay wrote. “The rookie leads the league with 15 sacks taken and has lost a whopping 105 yards on those plays, but he’s starting to adapt a bit better to the speed of the game. After going down on 17.7 percent of his drop-backs in the opener, Ward improved his sack rate to 13.2 in Week 2 and finally reached single-digits with a 9.5 sack rate in Week 3.”

“Ward’s decision-making is clearly improving, but even if he’s making perfect choices with the ball, the first-year passer won’t be able to oversee a functional offense unless the Titans bulk up in the offensive trenches,” Kay added.

Titans Offense Already Making 1 Change

While the Titans haven’t brought in a veteran offensive lineman, the team is at least looking for new approaches to the offense. Titans head coach Brian Callahan has relinquished offensive play-calling duties, and quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree will take over.

“Our offensive staff and our gameplanning process and system is going to remain in place,” Callahan told reporters on Tuesday. “It’s still a collaborative process.”

“We rely on everyone to do their part. Nick [Holz] is still the offensive coordinator, he’ll still maintain his same exact routine and process that he’s gone through to help me, and then Bo is gonna step in as the play caller on Sunday’s [and] allow me to do more with our team and with all three phases—pay more time and attention to those things,” Callahan added.
