Bills RB James Cook Opens Up on New Contract & Stunning Week 1 Win

During the NFL offseason and throughout training camp, the Buffalo Bills‘ biggest concern was the contract situation with star running back James Cook. The Bills and Cook weren’t seeing eye-to-eye on a contract extension, which was getting tense with the start of the regular season rapidly approaching, and it was a storyline on HBO’s Hard Knocks.

Fortunately for the Bills, the team was able to convince Cook to sign on the dotted line, as he agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal, with $30 million of that new deal being fully guaranteed.

With Cook’s long-term future with the Bills secured, the question was whether he could continue to produce and be one of the best running backs in the NFL. After three games, that game seems to have been answered.

James Cooks Already Living Up to New Contract With Bills

During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Cook talked about his new deal, whether he’s content with that extension and the epic season-opening win against the Baltimore Ravens.

“Of course, I love it here,” Cook said. “It’s who drafted me, and I want to be here forever.”

In Week 1, Cook racked up 102 yards from scrimmage and a rushing touchdown, as the Bills were able to pull off an incredible come-from-behind win against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. The star running back shared his thoughts on that wild game to start the 2025 NFL season.

“It’s nuts!” Cook said. “I thought the game was over, like literally. We just kept fighting. Something happened. I don’t know what happened. It just clicked. I looked down, looked back up, and the game was over, and we were winning.”

Along with helping Buffalo get the win over Baltimore, Cook has continued to play at a high level, as the Bills have gotten off to a 3-0 start while living up to the expectations of being a legitimate title contender in the AFC.

After three games, Cook has rushed for 284 yards and four touchdowns, while hauling in nine catches for 71 receiving yards.

James Cook Opens Up About Playing With Josh Allen

One of the biggest benefits Cook has of playing in Buffalo is the fact that he gets to share the field with reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen. Cooke talked about what it’s like playing with Allen, but he seems to be more fond of him as a person.

“A great player, a great teammate,” Cook said of Allen. “Everybody don’t know he is like the best person. He’s going to make sure you are alright. … He’s just always going to be there for you.

“He’s just a kind person. A genuine always-look-out-for-you person.”

As long as Allen and Cook stay healthy moving forward, the Bills will be a serious threat to go the distance during the 2025 campaign. Buffalo may not be a perfect football team right now, but they definitely have the potential to be great this season, with the squad being all in on trying to win that elusive Super Bowl title for the storied franchise.
