Moms will always be moms â and for Jimmy Kimmel, his mother was the steady support he leaned on during a difficult week away from work. After a whirlwind of a week, Kimmel credits his mom with helping him through his recent suspension.
On the second night of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” returning to TV, the 57-year-old host revealed that his mother, Joan, made sure he was cared for and well-fed while the show was off the air.
âMy mom relentlessly kept making [food], sheâs like, âCan I bring over some pasta fazool? Can I makeââ She brought cookies with my face on them to the show last night,â Kimmel revealed to viewers.

The comment came after guest Lisa Ann Walter brought him âmacaroni alla pescoraceâ as a welcome back gift. She joked it was part of her âplanâ to bring âthings America loves the most,â including âa nice home cooked meal and a great rack,â which got laughs from the host.

Walter teased that she wanted to help during Kimmelâs time away. âI figured you were out of work for a few days, so you might need some food. I like to help,â she said.
The moment added lightness to Kimmelâs first week back on television, which came after ABC suspended the show following his controversial remarks about Charlie Kirkâs assassination.
Kimmel Addresses Suspension on Return

On Tuesday, September 23, Kimmel made a triumphant return to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and delivered an emotional monologue, clarifying his previous comments. âI do wanna make something clear, because itâs important to me as a human, and that is, you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,â he said.
He continued, âNor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what it was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make.â
Kimmel closed his remarks by emphasizing the value of free speech: âIf we donât have free speech, then we just donât have a free country. Itâs as simple as that.â
While Disney allowed the show to return after what it called âthoughtful conversationsâ with Kimmel, not all networks are airing the program. As per Deadline, Nexstar Media, which owns 32 ABC affiliates, confirmed it will continue to preempt the show during âproductive discussionsâ with Disney executives.
Sinclair Broadcasting, the nationâs largest ABC affiliate group, also announced it would replace “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with news programming until further notice. Both companies said they are continuing to evaluate the showâs return.
