PGA Tour golfer Jake Knapp’s longtime girlfriend, Makena White, died suddenly at age 28. The tragic news was announced on White’s official Instagram page on Friday, September 26.
The caption read, “Hi everyone – this is Makena’s friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week. She is already so deeply missed by her Dad, her family, her friends, and of course by Nelly and Fergie.
“Makena was one of a kind. She had this rare way of making you feel special, and her huge heart was always overflowing with love. To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule.”
A cause of death was not immediately revealed. The post concluded, “If you would like to honour Makena’s memory, donations to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund would mean a lot. We love you Mak. We’ll miss you always, and we’ll be looking for you in the sunset 💛.”
Knapp, 31, started dating White in August 2023. However, they didn’t go public with their relationship until the golfer won the 2024 Mexico at Videnta, Knapp’s first PGA Tour win, and the couple’s celebration went viral on social media.
She joked on Instagram afterward, “Does it still count as a hard launch if NBC saw it first?”
According to her LinkedIn profile, White, a native of Canada, graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, with a degree in communications and software engineering in 2019. She worked as representative for LeMaitre, a job she started in 2021.
White was a huge Ottawa Senators fan and, of course, Knapp’s No. 1 fan.

After their relationship became public, White often posted about Knapp’s success on her Instagram page. Before her death was announced, her final post celebrated the golfer’s second season on the PGA Tour.
She posted several photos of the couple at numerous tournaments and wrote, “Year 2 of first fairway hugs & watching you live out your dreams 🫶🏼 Second season in the books — forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here’s to many many many more! I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud 💛.”
She also paid tribute to Knapp on his birthday. White captioned a post on May 31, “Happy birthday to my very best friend. No matter where our crazy adventures take us, you make every place feel like home 💛 I love you sweet boy!”
Knapp commented, “Thank youuu, I love you ❤️.”

White love to watch Knapp play golf. Most recently, she joined the California native as he competed in the Scottish Open in July. She posted on Instagram, “Skipped around Scotland with people I love & watched my boy do his thang 🏴.”
During an appearance on the Birdie Little Secrets podcast in February, White joked about a 16-year-old boy approaching her to ask about Knapp’s swing thoughts during a downswing. She recalled texting Knapp and he jokingly replied, “My swing thought on my downswing is stay away from my girlfriend.”
