Georgetown is temporarily closed to all traffic from Interstate 70 after a flood of leaf peepers caused gridlock throughout the mountain community, bringing traffic on all roads to a standstill.
The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office closed Georgetown to I-70 traffic at 1:45 p.m. because of the extreme congestion, the agency said on social media.
Locals coming home via I-70 will need to provide proof of residency to traffic controllers.
Drivers using the Waze app reported standstill traffic just east of the Georgetown exit, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
