Yankees’ Aaron Judge Makes Surprising Comment on Crochet Ahead of Playoff Series

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge made a surprising comment about Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet ahead of the Wild Card Series.

The Yankees will host the Red Sox in the Wild Card Series, and Boston will be turning to Garrett Crochet in Game 1. The left-hander has been dominant this season, and Judge believes Crochet might be the best pitcher in baseball.

“He can run up to 100 miles an hour,” Judge said about Crochet. He works all his pitches in the zone when he needs to. He’s a tough matchup, if not one of the best, the best pitcher in the game right now, probably on his way to a Cy Young. It’s impressive what he’s done this year, and I’m looking forward to facing him.”

It’s a surprising comment that Judge gave so much praise to Crochet and called him the best pitcher in the game, especially when New York has Max Fried, who is also an ace. But Judge believes the left-hander deserves all the praise before the playoff series.

Judge is hitting .200 in 15 ABs in his career against Crochet, but two of his three hits are home runs.

Yankees ‘Confident’ Going Into Red Sox Series

New York will host Boston in the Wild Card Series, and the Yankees are confident ahead of the matchup.

The Yankees ended the season on an eight-game winning streak, and Judge believes the team has been playing baseball for a couple of weeks now.

“These last couple of weeks were pretty fun,” said Judge. “We went into a gauntlet of games where people counted us out. We took care of business, especially this last week. We’ve been treating it like the postseason.”

New York is entering the playoffs on a hot streak, and manager Aaron Boone says the team has plenty of confidence.

“We can beat you in different ways, but we’ve still got to go out and do it,” Boone said. “We’re a long way away from that. We’re confident going in. I know the guys are, and hopefully we put our best foot forward.”

Game 1 of the Wild Card Series is set for Sept. 30 at 6:08 p.m. ET.

Judge Eager for New York-Boston Playoff Series

Although New York won eight straight games to end the season, it still wasn’t enough to win the AL East.

The Yankees are now hosting the Red Sox in the Wild Card Series, and Judge is excited to reignite the rivalry.

“We’ve got a rowdy crowd out there, a rowdy group that’s been behind us all year long,” Judge added. “Even in our tough times in the summer, they were still showing out in numbers, supporting us. They’re definitely going to be excited for a Yankees-Red Sox postseason matchup, that’s for sure.”

Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story, meanwhile, is also excited for a playoff series against the Yankees.

“Just as a fan of the game, I think growing up, you know pretty well about the rivalry and what it means to both cities,” Story said. “And I think it’s a special thing. I think it’s the best in all of sports.”

The Yankees-Red Sox playoff schedule is as follows:

  • Game 1: Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6:08 p.m. ET, Yankee Stadium
  • Game 2: Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6:08 p.m. ET, Yankee Stadium
  • Game 3: Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6:08 p.m. ET, Yankee Stadium
