Browns Announce Devastating Injury Update After Week 4 Loss

The Cleveland Browns‘ offense took a notable hit during the Week 4 blowout against the Detroit Lions, losing a pair of veteran receivers.

Both Cedric Tillman and DeAndre Carter will miss multiple weeks with injuries, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced on Monday.

“Injury front, DeAndre Carter has a knee injury. Cedric Tillman has a hamstring injury. Those injuries will keep them out in the weeks department,” Stefanski said. “We’ll treat them, see how they recover, but we’ll be without them for a little bit.”

The injuries further deplete a wide receiver group that was already thin. With David Bell and Cade McDonald sidelined, the Browns will be leaning even more on Jerry Jeudy to carry the load as their top option. It also opens the door for rookie Isaiah Bond and second-year receiver Jamari Thrash to step up and prove themselves in expanded roles.

Browns Need Receivers to Step Up Following Injuries

Tillman was slated to be the Browns’ No. 2 receiver heading into the year. He has 11 catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns this season. He’s also the only Browns receiver to catch a touchdown this season. Cleveland has only thrown for three total touchdowns through four games, the other belonging to running back Dylan Sampson.

Carter has not contributed much on offense but has been the team’s primary return man.

“I think it starts with everybody just doing their job. I think you’ve seen that at times from this offense where guys are doing their job and we’re able to move it,” Stefanski said. “Obviously, with Ced out, we’re going to need some guys to step up in that role and provide some value, both in the pass game and the run game. But those are things that we’ll work through. I really believe in the group we have in that room, and we just have some guys that have to step up.”

Browns Pro Bowler Jerry Jeudy Upset After Loss to Lions

Jeudy is off to a slow start following a Pro Bowl campaign last season. He has just 13 catches for 182 yards this season and has yet to find the end zone.

Jeudy notched three catches for 48 yards in the loss to the Lions. He could have added a big chunk to his total in the fourth quarter but dropped the pass. Jeudy took accountability for the mistake in an expletive-laden postgame rant.

“That (expletive) got me hot. I gotta make that damn play, bro. It’s a big time play, I got to catch that (expletive). I catch them (expletive) every day in practice. That would have been a big play,” Jeudy said. “I have to make those (expletive) plays.”

The Browns appear poised to make a quarterback change, which would move Joe Flacco to the bench in place of rookie Dillon Gabriel. Jeudy’s role as a reliable option will become even more important as the rookie looks to find his footing.

Cleveland heads to London this week to face the Minnesota Vikings. The Browns are a 3.5-point underdog, per ESPN BET.
