Ex-Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill Gets Major Update on Knee Injury

Former Kansas City Chiefs and current Miami Dolphins superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill may not see an NFL football field for a long time after he suffered a gruesome knee injury on Monday Night Football to close out Week 4.

Before long, there was news of a Tyreek Hill injury update on the morning of Tuesday, September 30, via NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill has torn multiple ligaments in his dislocated knee, including his ACL, ending his season and giving him a long road ahead for 2026, source says,” Rapoport reported on X. Adding: “He’ll have surgery today to repair the significant injury.”

In a follow-up post, Rapoport also noted that “with surgery today, it’s possible that Tyreek Hill will undergo additional surgeries.

And that “there is no guarantee he’ll be ready for 2026.”

“None of his 2026 salary is guaranteed now, but $11M (of $29.9M) becomes fully guaranteed if he’s on the roster in March, plus a $5M roster bonus,” the insider concluded.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter also relayed that “Hill remains hospitalized and will undergo surgery today.

Some Are Questioning If Tyreek Hill Has Played His Final NFL Snap After the Injury Update on His Knee

Former Chiefs and current Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill suffers knee injury in Week 4.

GettyTyreek Hill was carted off by the Miami Dolphins‘ medical team on Monday Night Football.

The Hill injury is another example of just how quickly an NFL career can end. That’s not to say Hill’s career is definitely over, but many around the football community are seriously questioning if the dynamic wideout nicknamed “the Cheetah” will ever play again.

At age 31, Hill’s game — predicated on speed and youth — was starting to show signs of regression. And that was before this major knee injury.

If Hill recovers before the end of the 2026 season, he’ll be 32 years old the next time he’s eligible to play. If he doesn’t, he’ll be 33 years old in 2027.

The unfortunate truth is that Hill likely had one or two good years left before he got hurt. Now, after the injury, there’s no telling if he’ll ever be able to recapture the greatness that he displayed both in Kansas City and his first couple of seasons in Miami.

Tyreek Hill News Ends Any Chance of a Chiefs Reunion in 2025, but Beyond That Is a Different Story

Hill is obviously out for the remainder of the 2025 campaign, so any chance of a Chiefs reunion this year is now finished.

However, in a more long-term sense, you have to wonder if the Dolphins will release Hill in 2026, saving somewhere around $36 to $39 million in cap space (depending on whether he’s designated as a post-June 1 cut or not).

This feels likely to occur, and if it does, Hill would then be a free agent for the first time in his career. Free to sign wherever if he decides to keep playing.

At that point, one could never rule out a KC return. Let’s say Hill offers to sign on for a 2026 Super Bowl run or one final season in 2027 — would the Chiefs really say no?

It all depends on the health of Hill’s knee and his price tag, which should drop significantly. But Kansas City loves its reunions, so as long as Hill is still playing in the NFL, there’s a small chance he could don the Chiefs uniform one last time.
