Will 49ers’ Brock Purdy and Mac Jones trade places this week in Los Angeles?

As the 49ers quickly put a disappointing loss in the rearview mirror, it remains to be seen who will be good to go for Thursday night’s road game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The 49ers were required on Monday to give an “estimation” to the league regarding injury status even though the team was given the day off, other than body maintenance and injury rehab. In that report, quarterback Brock Purdy (turf toe) was listed as “did not participate,” and Mac Jones (knee sprain) went in the books as “full participant.”

That’s in contrast to late last week, when coach Kyle Shanahan conceded Purdy was farther along than Jones. By game day, Purdy was removed from the injury list entirely, with Jones as questionable.

Purdy played every snap in a 31-26 home loss to Jacksonville, completing 22 of 38 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns with three turnovers — two on interceptions and one on a lost fumble caused by former teammate Arik Armstead on a strip-sack with the 49ers within striking distance in the final minutes. However, coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy’s toe was bothering him, hence the “did not participate” designation.

A clue, perhaps, as to whether it will be Purdy or Jones against the Rams? There may not be an answer until game day.

General manager John Lynch gave no indication either way Tuesday morning during his weekly appearance on KNBR-680. Lynch confirmed Purdy had additional tests “to make sure Brock’s all right. I think he is.”

As for the game, Lynch said, “He’s listed as questionable, and I think it’s a true reflection of where he is right now.”

Jones has apparently benefited from the week off from game action.

“I think Mac is in a good position to play or back up if need be,” Lynch said.

Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall Jr., who has become the 49ers’ most dangerous target at wide receiver, departed after 37 snaps and afterward said there was “instability” in his knee.

“We’ll see how far he can get in the short week and if he can get out there,” Lynch said of Pearsall.

Shanahan will address the media Tuesday afternoon, followed by player availability. The 49ers depart for Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Aside from Purdy and Pearsall, those who received “did not participate” designations and will be watched closely during a no-contact practice Tuesday include wide receiver Jauan Jennings (shoulder, knee), defensive tackle C.J. West (thumb), defensive lineman Yetur Gross-Matos (knee), wide receiver Jordan Watkins (calf) and defensive end Robert Beal Jr. (ankle).

Listed as limited participants were rookie defensive end Mykel Williams (wrist, oblique) and linebacker Dee Winters (knee).

The 49ers don’t actually practice until after 5 p.m. in order to give players more recovery time in a short week.
