4-Time World Series Champion Bochy Available, Open To Reunion With San Francisco Giants

On Monday September 29, 2025, the Texas Rangers announced they have mutually agreed with legendary former San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy to end his tenure as manager of the Rangers.

Texas also offered Bochy a role in the front office should he want it.

The news came just hours after the Giants dismissed their own manager, Bob Melvin, after two seasons in San Francisco.

So naturally, many San Francisco Giants insiders and even insiders across the baseball world began pointing out the obvious – that a reunion between the Giants and Bochy is now possible.

Giants fans are split on the idea. Some of them would love to see Bochy, who led the Giants to 3 world series championships in 5 years from 2010-2014. But some of them believe investing in Bochy is not worth it given his age (he will be 71 around the start of the 2025 season).

Plus, Melvin has a very similar managerial style to Bochy and he did not succeed in SF.

Fans who are hesitant about bringing Bochy back would rather see a youthful, energetic manager like current University of Tennessee skipper Tony Vitello take control of the clubhouse.

Buster Posey’s Comments on Bochy Reunion

Reporters asked Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey about a potential reunion with Bochy after the Giants dismissed Melvin on Monday, but before the news came out that Bochy had parted ways with the Rangers

“I don’t know what his status is yet so I can’t speak on that,” Posey said

Now that Bochy is out of Texas, expect Giants reporters to follow up with Posey on that question.

But Posey’s silence also speaks volumes. He could have said something along the lines of: we loved having Bochy in San Francisco, no one more than me, but his legacy in a Giants uniform is a closed book.

The fact that he’s even monitoring Bochy’s status is noteworthy. It means he’s likely at least considering a reunion with Bochy, and they will probably speak about it if Bochy is open to it.

For his part, Bochy said he “would always have a conversation” with Posey.

Remember, Posey played for Bochy from 2009-2019, every year of Posey’s career but one, and they won 3 World Series titles together with the Giants

Are Any Giants Players Left Who Played For Bochy in SF?

There is exactly one player still on the San Francisco Giants roster who played for Bruce Bochy in San Francisco: ace starting pitcher Logan Webb

Webb was a rookie in Bochy’s last season in San Francisco in 2019 and a far cry from being one of the best pitchers in baseball like he is now. But he did make 8 starts in 2019 for a Giants team that went 77-85.

There are two longtime Giants who San Francisco just traded away at the 2025 trade deadline that have said they’d be willing to return to San Francisco in free agency this offseason: Tyler Rogers and Mike Yastrzemski. Both Rogers and Yastrzemski played for Bochy in 2019 as well.

But most of the iconic players from the Bochy era retired. So Bochy would essentially be taking over a completely new era of Giants baseball.

Could he lead a core of Webb, Matt Chapman, Willy Adames, Rafael Devers, Jung Hoo Lee and others to a championship?

It would certainly take some Bochy magic, but would also be a great story.

Giants fans, what do you think of the Bruce Bochy rumors?
