Dolphins Reunite With 8th Year Receiver After Tyreek Hill’s Injury

The Miami Dolphins look to have a Tyreek-Hill sized hole in their passing offense, as the five-time All-Pro dislocated his knee on Monday night; an injury that will almost certainly rule him out for the rest of the season, and potentially longer.

In his absence, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will have to rely on his auxiliary weapons in the form of Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington and tight end Darren Waller, who returned to action for the first time in almost two years to the tune of a pair of receiving touchdowns against the New York Jets in primetime.

However, that could not end up being enough to satiate the demands of head coach, Mike McDaniels’ extensive passing offense. As such, it seems like the team has already started to make moves in search for a replacement for the former Super Bowl LIV champion.

Dolphins Bring Back 8th Year Wideout From Saints Practice Squad

Per David Furones of the Sun Sentinel, the Dolphins have re-signed former wideout, Cedrick Wilson Jr., from the New Orleans Saints practice squad on Tuesday.

As Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill is lost for the season with his significant knee injury suffered in Monday night’s win over the New York Jets, the team made a move Tuesday to bring in an outside receiver.” Furones reported on Tuesday.

And it’s a familiar name for the Dolphins under coach Mike McDaniel. Cedrick Wilson Jr. is being signed off the New Orleans Saints practice squad.

Furones also noted that the roster move happened just after McDaniel’s media availability, in which he alluded to the possibility of the team bringing in another player at the position.

“We’re always deep diving on that,” McDaniel said, via Furones. “We have discussions on what’s out there anytime a player gets injured, and then we assess short-term, long-term relative to our own assets. We’ll be looking at that. I know (general manager) Chris (Grier) and his staff are as we speak, and there could be potentially be something.”

How Can Cedrick Wilson Impact The Dolphins’ Offense?

Wilson will likely be competing for snaps as the WR3 with former Tennessee Titan, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.

The one upside for Wilson, in terms of his playing time projection, is that due to the team’s dearth of talent at the tight end position beyond Waller, it is unlikely that the team will utilizing two tight-end sets in passing situations, meaning that there should be three receivers on the field the grand majority of the time when the team plans to pass, rather than run the ball.

The former Boise State man has had an up and down career – one that was highlighted by a 602 yard, 6 touchdown season in Dallas before signing a three-year, $22.8 million deal. Two seasons of mediocre production – in which he could not manage even 300 receiving yards in either year – ultimately saw his stint in Miami be called a disappointment.

Wilson only ended up playing out two out of those three years after restructuring his contract, and subsequently landed on the Saints, where he managed 211 yards and 1 touchdown in 2024, before being released last month during final cuts, and re-signed to the practice squad.

Is Wilson a game-changer that could affect the outlook of the season for Miami – no. Could he make a difference on key plays and important third downs – one hundred percent.
