Saints Get Major Update on TEs Taysom Hill, Foster Moreau

The struggling New Orleans Saints offense is getting closer to being back to full strength.

Tight ends Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill reportedly will return to practice Wednesday and could play for the Saints in their Week 5 meeting with the New York Giants on Sunday at the Superdome.

The Saints (0-4) are 27th in the NFL in passing yards per game (177) and 28th in points scored per game (16.5) through their first four games. After two one-score losses at home, the Saints have dropped two straight on the road by a score of 75-32.

Neither Moreau and Hill have played for New Orleans this year, since Moreau injured his knee during the 2024 season. Hill has been battling a chest injury that caused him to miss the final five games last season and first four this year.

Both Moreau and Hill were placed on the physically unable to perform list, which meant they would miss at least four games. It seems like they will end up missing exactly that amount.

Foster Moreau Is A High-End Receiving Option For The Saints

Moreau finished tied for third on the Saints in receptions in 2024 (32) and receiving yards (413) and led the team in touchdowns (5). Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler has decent numbers with a 67.7 completion percentage and 5-to-1 touchdown-to-INT rate.

Yet, in the absence of a dominant wide receiver — tight Juwan Johnson leads the team in receiving yards (204) — Moreau could have an impact on the Saints‘ struggling pass offense. He is 6-4, 250 pounds and has been an impactful receiving threat in his career with the Saints and Las Vegas Raiders.

Moreau could also work the middle of the field and open up the outside for receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Olave has three 50-plus-yard games in his four starts this year, yet has not topped 60 yards yet, and Shaheed has not surpassed 52 receiving yards this year.

Taysom Hill Can Do It All For Saints Offense

Hill, of course, has been a Swiss Army knife for the Saints since he joined the team in 2017. He has mostly played tight end but has also spent time at quarterback, running back and wide receiver.

The Saints are 67-38 in 105 games in which Hill plays. He has 33 rushing touchdowns and 11 receiving scores and has topped 650 all-purpose yards in two of the past three seasons.

Plus, having the Saints offense at full speed would make an impact for Moore, an offensive mind who helped the Philadelphia Eagles unlock their potential and win the Super Bowl in 2024.

Though the Saints are devoid of gamebreakers, outside of running back Alvin Kamara, they have been playing without two of their best offensive weapons can’t help.

Having Moreau and Hill back could also help the Saints in the red zone, since they are tied for 21st in the NFL in red-zone TD percentage (50.0). Not a single New Orleans player has more than one total touchdown this season.

Hill’s 6-2, 221-pound frame and prowess running the ball should lend itself to helping New Orleans’ rushing attack, since it has only two rushing TDs this season.
