GILROY – One teenager was injured and another was arrested after a fight at a Gilroy continuation high school ended in an off-campus shooting Tuesday, police said.
The fight started as the school day was ending, just before 2 p.m., at Mt. Madonna Continuation High School, located at 9300 Wren Ave., according to the Gilroy Police Department.
When officers arrived at the scene, they learned some of the people involved in the fight had left in vehicles. Minutes later, another fight was reported in the 500 block of Broadway.
At least one gunshot was heard during the second fight, police said.
Officers found a 17-year-old boy suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital, where he remained in critical but stable condition Wednesday.
A 15-year-old boy was identified as a suspect in the shooting, police said. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a firearm and booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall. Because he is a minor, police did not identify him.
Police did not release any other information about the case, including a possible motive.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” police said.
