Falcons’ Biggest Star Takes Home NFL Award After First Month

The first month of football was full of trials and tribulations for the Atlanta Falcons. The season started with a close loss to the division favorites. The next week it was the Dirty Birds bouncing back in a prime time thumping of JJ McCarthy’s Minnesota Vikings. Then a blow out loss to one of the league’s worst teams led way to a massive home victory over a team that was one win away from the Super Bowl last season.

Through it all the one constant in the A was outstanding running back play from one of the league’s biggest stars, Bijan Robinson.

Robinson was rewarded for his performance with league recognition, being named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month. It is the first time in the young backs career he has earned such honors.

Bijan wasn’t the only Falcon to bring home some brass, rookie safety Xavier Watts earned league honors as the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Month.

Bijan Robinson Leads NFL In Yards From Scrimmage

It’s getting harder and harder to deny Bijan Robinson his spot among the league’s best. One month into just his third season in the league, nobody has more yards from scrimmage than Bijan.

He has amassed 584 total yards through four games, averaging 146 yards per game. There is not one game yet that he has not hit triple digits in the total yards category.

In Week 1, he had just 24 yards on the ground on 12 carries. However, his six receptions for 100 yards, including a 50 yard touchdown, helped him keep his team in striking distance.

The following week on Sunday Night Football, he ran for 143 yards. In the loss to the Carolina Panthers, the running game was clipped due to an early deficit. He tallied 72 yards on just 13 carries, adding five catches for 39 yards combining for his lowest total on the season, 111 yards.

Last week he nearly reached 200 total yards in the win over the Washington Commanders, with 75 and a touchdown coming on the ground and 106 coming through the air.

His 270 receiving yards lands him 15th in the league, ahead of receivers like Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, Ja’Marr Chase, and Nico Collins.

Where Does Bijan Rank Among League’s Best

During the off season, reigning Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley made headlines by saying that he believes Bijan Robinson is the league’s next generationally outstanding running back.

But after this year’s performance, it’s hard to deny Bijan’s spot atop this list currently.

With players like Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry starting the year slow, the top three is clear.

Jonathan Taylor, AFC player of the month James Cook, and Bijan. JT leads the league in rushing yards, while Cook owns the league’s lead in touchdowns.

However, if I was starting a team today, it would take a lot to talk me into wanting anybody over the Falcons‘ rock-toter, quarterbacks included.

The 23-year-old Texas alum plays football differently than anybody in the league. His versatility is unmatched and, as of right now, his productivity is on pace to be unmatched as well. He is my top back in the league.
