Patriots Are Undefeated Against The Bills On Sunday Night Football

Earlier this afternoon, I wrote a piece about how the New England Patriots were becoming a public favorite to upset the Buffalo Bills this Sunday Night in a prime time divisional square off. And that was before I knew the Pats were undefeated against this foe in such spots…

Now, if history is any indication, the Patriots are GAURAUNTEED to knock off one of the final undefeated teams in the NFL on SNF.

I say that sarcastically of course as New England enters the game as a more than two touchdown underdog that has now been bet all the way down to +8.5.

However, it is certainly interesting to discuss the fact that, historically speaking, the Patriots have absolutely owned the Bills on prime time.

“Sunday will be the 12th time the Patriots and the Bills square off in prime time, with the Patriots 9-2 in the previous matchups on national television,” writes Matt Geagan of CBS Boston. “That includes a 4-0 record against the Bills on Sunday Night Football.”

That being said, it was a very different world the last time these two teams met on Sunday Night Football. George Bush was president, Tom Brady threw four first half touchdowns to Randy Moss who finished the game with ten catches for 128 yards to help New England advance to 10-0 on the season.

You can determine how much stock you put into the Pats 4-0 SNF record, I for one, am planting my flag on the Patriots pulling off the upset.

Bills Turning The Tide In Recent Years

These are not the two organizations that they have been in past decades. For the first two decades of this century, the AFC East belonged to the New England Patriots.

But then Buffalo drafted Josh Allen, and New England “let” Tom Brady walk and the tides changed.

“The Patriots have won 38 of the last 50 regular season meetings going back to 2000, but a lot of that had to do with Tom Brady absolutely owning the Bills,” Geagan continues. “But Buffalo has won seven of the last 10 regular-season meetings, and crushed the Patriots, 47-17, when they crossed paths in the AFC Wild Card round in 2021.”

However, even with Buffalo making back-to-back-to-back deep playoff runs, things are starting to even out. The two teams have split the regular season series each of the last three seasons. And even though this is the last time the Patriots will have to travel to Highmark Stadium (as it is getting demolished this offseason), the Pats have to feel pretty good about their chances in this spot.

The Bills did not lose a game at home last season, finishing 10-0 including two playoff victories.

They’re 3-0 this season and somehow got away with the NFL scheduling four of their first five games at home.

It’s going to take an indominable effort, but history is on the Patriots‘ side Sunday Night
