Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Poses Question Ahead of Week 5

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders posed a question on social media ahead of the team’s Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.

Sanders has been in the spotlight this week following Dillon Gabriel’s elevation to the starting role. The former Colorado star made headlines for his silent, mimed responses in an interview after Gabriel was named the No. 1 quarterback. It was apparently a response to Rex Ryan, who called Sanders out for “running his mouth.”

Sanders is still functioning as the No. 3, emergency quarterback for the Browns. He sits behind Flacco and Gabriel and can only enter the game if both are injured.

Ahead of Sunday’s matchup, Sanders posted a photo on Instagram from London with a personal question.

“Thinking about getting a haircut in London,” Sanders said, including a yes or no poll. The majority called for Sanders to go get a haircut.

Sanders’ hair had become a talking point for fans in the comment section after his viral silent interview.

“WTF is going on with Shedeur’s hair,” one fan said.

“Shedeur Sanders must be doing the I’m not getting a haircut until I play challenge,” another added.

Shedeur Sanders Likely to Get Shot With Browns Eventually

Sanders remaining in the No. 3 quarterback role was an interesting decision by the Browns, especially considering Joe Flacco’s poor play as the starter through four weeks. But there’s still a chance that Sanders could get his shot later in the season, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“I did hear about the other quarterback. There are a lot of things inside the Browns building that they like about Shedeur Sanders. His innate feel in a football game, they like his ability, they like how cool he is under pressure,” Rapoport said. “It just doesn’t seem, as of right now, that he’s ready to be a starting quarterback, which is okay. That was what they believed when they drafted him. That’s why he went in the fifth round. Will we get a look at him later in the season? It does sound like we probably will.”

Sanders had a mixed preseason. He looked sharp in the team’s first preseason game, passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Sanders missed the second preseason game with an injury but did appear in the preseason finale, which was rough. He completed just 3 of 6 passes for 14 yards and was sacked five times.

Cam Newton Floats Browns ‘Conspiracy’ Around Shedeur Sanders

Many have questioned why Sanders hasn’t had more opportunities with the Browns. Former NFL MVP Cam Newton believes the answer is simple: it’s business. Newton pointed to Sanders’ massive popularity, suggesting the team is managing the situation carefully because of the spotlight he brings.

This is my conspiracy theory about the Cleveland Browns. Shedeur Sanders is extremely talented and well and capable of being a player in the NFL. But I do not think a lot of teams are willing to risk what’s mounting in circus-like attention that he brings naturally,” Newton said. So therefore the Browns are stuck with this idea, if we cut Shedeur that would be bad for business. Business being, he’s good for business on our roster. If we cut him, he’s going to be picked up by somebody. When have we ever had a person on our roster to move the needle?… The Cleveland Browns have never had a player in modern day that pushes the needle like Shedeur Sanders.

Regardless of the attention around Sanders, Gabriel will be in the spotlight when the Browns take on the Minnesota Vikings in London on Sunday.
