This is Fox Sports’ official statement on Sanchez’s injuries, released on Saturday:
“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
Sanchez joined Fox Sports’ broadcasting team in 2021 after retiring from the NFL in 2018. He’s currently paired with play-by-play commentator Adam Amin and sideline reporter Kristina Pink. Sanchez has become a fan-favorite commentator, with his friendly tone and interesting insights making for an enjoyable viewing experience.
Mark Sanchez was the Best New York Jets Quarterback of the Century
The fifth overall pick in 2009 out of USC, Sanchez started immediately as a rookie. He put together a strong first season, making the All-Rookie team behind a 2,444-yard, 12-touchdown campaign. He did throw 20 interceptions and only completed 53.8-percent of his passes, but there was promise.
At the conclusion of his rookie season, Sanchez led the Jets to a pair of road playoff wins, exciting the fanbase. It had been some time since New York had gone on a postseason run, and Sanchez beat the Bengals and Chargers in succession to make it to the AFC Championship Game. The Jets lost, but they had hope for the future.
Sanchez improved his stats in his second NFL campaign, throwing for 3,291 yards and 17 touchdowns on a 54.8-percent completion rate. He did throw 13 interceptions, but that was seven fewer than his rookie season. The Jets went 11-5 and made the playoffs, and Sanchez again won two road playoff games, including upsetting the Tom Brady-led Patriots to reach the AFC Championship Game. There, they fell to the Steelers.
Though Sanchez only played a few more seasons in New York and never had a completion percentage above 60.0, those two AFC Championship Game appearances made for the most successful postseason run this century for the Jets. They’re still attempting to get back to that level of success.
