It has taken Pep Guardiola just 349 games to win 250 Premier League games, a new record, and he hopes to celebrate with two legendary managers.

Manchester City beat Brentford 1-0 on Sunday thanks to an Erling Haaland goal as the Norwegian striker continued his superb run of form.

Guardiola will hope to mount another title challenge this season having won the Premier League six times already as Manchester City boss.

It has been a remarkable period of success for the club under Guardiola since he arrived in the summer of 2016 and he has reached a huge milestone quicker than any other manager in the Premier League.

Manchester United icon Alex Ferguson took 404 matches to secure 250 Premier League wins, with Arsene Wenger needing 423 games to do so with Arsenal.

The only other manager who can boast 250 Premier League wins is current Everton boss David Moyes, who took 645 matches to reach the landmark.

Guardiola did not brush off the achievement and sent an invitation to Ferguson and Wenger after joining them in an elite club.

‘We won a lot!’ Guardiola said. ‘Otherwise you cannot take this accolade without winning a lot of games. It’s an honour for me to be alongside Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger so I will invite them to a good dinner.

‘Maybe not in Manchester, maybe somewhere with more sun. No, we’ll do it in Manchester. It’s an honour, a pleasure to be part of that in the Premier League history.

‘I want to say thank you to the club, the organisation, the players and the staff that I had because we did it quicker, faster, better and really, really pleased. Now, let’s go for 250 more.’

Manchester City also confirmed another impressive stat, posting: ‘Guardiola’s win percentage of 71.6 per cent is better than anyone else in the division’s history, outshining next best Alex Ferguson and Antonio Conte with 65.2 per cent and 62.9 per cent each.’

Premier League managers with 250 wins

Alex Ferguson – 528 wins

Arsene Wenger – 475

David Moyes – 280

Pep Guardiola – 250

Manchester City’s win at Brentford saw them climb to fifth in the table, three points behind leaders Arsenal.

Liverpool won their opening five league matches but have now suffered back-to-back defeats, with the Gunners leapfrogging them at the top.

Guardiola has mocked the idea that any of the big-hitters have sewn up the title at this stage of the campaign, with 31 matches still to play.

‘It’s just seven games for the Premier League,’ he said. ‘I would say three weeks ago Liverpool apparently won the Premier League and now they have not.

‘It’s important to see the team better and better. Liverpool is an incredible team, like Arsenal, the question is to improve and improve, the way we play, the way we defend, will help us to be close to fight.

‘I’m really pleased for this month since the Man United game. We are there and I have the feeling we are getting better and better.’

Manchester City will return after the international break by welcoming Everton to the Etihad on Saturday October 18.

Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from their recent disappointments by hosting Manchester United, while Arsenal go to Fulham.
